7 UMP subjects listed in world’s ranking
A total of seven subjects of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) joined the list of world’s elite universities when listed in the recently published QS World University Rankings by Subjects 2020.
The listed subjects are Engineering and Technology (386), Chemical Engineering (151–200), Electrical and Electronics Engineering (401–450), Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering (351–400), Pure Science (Chemistry) (451–500), Pure Science (Material Science) (351–400) and Social Sciences and Management (Business and Management Studies) (451–500).
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd. Rosli Hainin said that all the subjects were listed based on the performance of four indicators, namely academic reputation, employer reputation, the number of indexed articles and the H index that were extracted from Scopus.
“Overall, UMP manifests a great achievement in terms of employer reputation and the Scopus H index, along with the accomplishment of the lecturers in publishing quality research and being referred to internationally,” he said.
This achievement inspires UMP students to share their sentiments.
According to the President of the Students’ Representative Council (MPP) 2019/2020, Mohd Fitri Zulkaffli from the Faculty of Computing, being listed in the QS World University Rankings by Subject this year proves that this university is on the right track in realising its vision to be the best technical university by 2050.
“This is a sweet success when UMP is now at the 134th spot in Asia (QS University Rankings Asia 2020) and the 751–800 spot in the world (QS World University Rankings 2020).
“As the 5-star rating university (QS Stars University Ratings), the quality of academic and teaching and learning sessions is the utmost focus given by the university in the effort to ensure that the UMP graduates remain relevant and meet the industrial needs,” he said.
As a UMP student, he is very proud of the achievements accomplished by the university.
“UMP graduates will gain the benefits of this rating, especially when they enter the market because the branding of UMP as the best technical university will bring them a good reputation,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Rifqi Mohd. Jerome Rinjes, the Vice President (Communications and Corporate) of MPP 2019/2020 from the College of Engineering, also felt proud with all the subjects listed in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.
“This achievement has convinced me to introduce myself as a UMP student to the global public to gain knowledge and collaborate.
“Additionally, this ranking will boost the spirit of UMP students to contribute to more future achievements.
“I hope UMP will continue to strive for success, especially in producing holistic graduates,” he said.
For Yasmin Izureen Ibrahim from the Faculty of Industrial Sciences & Technology (FSTI), the excellence and greatness of UMP are increasingly evident in public.
“This success is undeniably a proud moment for all UMP associates who work together to bring UMP to the international level.
“UMP is undoubtedly the best choice to obtain your diploma or degree, or even at a higher level.
“UMP is also a great platform for students to develop their potential in terms of communication, leadership and soft skills so that they will be more competitive and in a class of its own,” she said.
She also believes that with this rating is an additional credit to showcase and introduce competent UMP graduates in various sectors and industries, thus convince employers to engage them.
Also sharing the success was a student from the Department of Chemical Engineering, College of Engineering, Amyleen Barnabas Alex.
She mentioned that this success has a positive impact on herself and all UMP denizens.
She hopes that UMP will continue to carve its name in the whole country and at the international level with the concerted effort from the university.
Ong Voon Chyi from the same department also congratulated all UMP associates.
“I am proud to get the opportunity to study at an internationally-recognised university.
“UMP does focus on students achievement, not only academically but also physically and mentally.
“May UMP can realise its vision and mission in maximising the potential of students to benefit the community.
“This effort will make UMP more renowned locally and internationally,” she said.
