Malam Gema Insan kicks off UMPSA Expokonvo

PAYA BESAR, 12 October 2024 – More than 3,000 Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) students and Pahang residents gathered at the UMPSA Sports Complex Hall, Gambang Campus, to witness the Malam Gema Insan (Human Echo Night) under the theme Under the Peaceful Sky, held in conjunction with the UMPSA 2024 Expokonvokesyen.

Malam Gema Insan carried the theme of peace, promoting a message of solidarity and unity with performances by artists Dato' Awie, Naim Daniel, Faizal Tahir, and Fynn Jamal, all of whom were warmly received by the audience.

The event began with the Expokonvo launch ceremony, followed by a heartfelt poetry recital by Fynn Jamal, whose real name is Nur Affina Yanti Jamalludin, a well-known figure in the art industry.

Also in attendance were the Member of Parliament for Paya Besar, Dato' Indera Mohd Shahar Abdullah; UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato' Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin; and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student and Alumni Affairs), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Ruslim Mohamed.

According to Dato' Indera Mohd Shahar, the choice of artists and the programme itself resonated well with young people, providing not only entertainment but also powerful messages of peace throughout the event.

He extended his congratulations to the organisers and UMPSA.

Meanwhile, Professor Dato' Ts. Dr. Yuserrie stated that, in line with the recommendations and aspirations of the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), today's students should be granted more space and responsibility to make decisions during their campus life.

"Student movements and activities at UMPSA have been given the freedom and authority to manage and administer with guidance from various parties at UMPSA.

"Various interesting activities have been planned leading up to the Convocation Ceremony, including the UMPSA Open Day, which involves clubs, UMPSA student associations, and both government and non-government agencies," he said.

The organisation of Expokonvokesyen 2024 ahead of the 19th UMPSA Convocation Ceremony, scheduled from 26 to 29 October, is a clear demonstration that today’s young people are energetic, creative, and optimistic enough to take on leadership roles when given the opportunity to manage programmes.

Adding more significance to the event, Malaysian humanitarian activist Muhammad Nadir Al-Nuri Kamaruzaman, better known as Nadir Al-Nuri, who is also the founder and CEO of the non-governmental organisation Persatuan Cinta Gaza Malaysia (CGM), was present.

He attended with his wife, Reem Almenawi, and their family as their daughter, Eman A. N. Mustaha, became the only Palestinian student to enrol in the undergraduate programme at UMPSA, studying for a Bachelor of Computer Science (Cyber Security) at the Faculty of Computing.

An Open Day was also held, giving first-year students in particular the chance to explore and engage closely with representatives from various active student clubs and associations at the university, according to their interests and needs.

UMPSA boasts 86 clubs and associations that cater to students' diverse interests and talents.
