Tengku Mahkota Pahang breaks fast with UMPSA residents

GAMBANG, 4 April 2024 - His Majesty Tengku Mahkota Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Ibni Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah was pleased to meet and break the fast with more than 2,000 students and staff of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA).

In addition to breaking the fast, Tengku Hassanal, who is also the UMPSA Pro-Chancellor, also gave donations to students from Koperasi Serbausaha Makmur Berhad (KOSMA) and Yayasan UMPSA to 110 UMPSA students in need.

Also present were the Minister of Higher Education, Yang Berhormat Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir, Chairman of the University Board of Directors, Dato’ Seri Abdul Razak Jaafar, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, Yang Berhormat Dato’ Indera Nazi Abu Bakar representing Menteri Besar of Pahang, the Pahang State Finance Officer and the management of the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and UMPSA.

In the ceremony, His Majesty expressed his pride when Yayasan UMPSA distributed RM1.8 million for student welfare and development which would be a catalyst in strengthening support to ensure student welfare as well as expanding development opportunities to improve the sustainability of academic excellence.

He also reminded the people of Pahang to be moderate and spend prudently, especially when celebrating Aidilfitri.

“Celebrating the victory day after Muslims went through various tests during Ramadan is not wrong, but do it moderately and do not get into debts,” he said in the ceremony held at the UMPSA Mosque of Gambang Campus.

He also witnessed the handover of UMPSA contributions from various corporate companies and agency funds for the benefit of students, especially asnaf and B40 students.

KOSMA Board Member, Dato’ Sri Dr. Sallehuddin Ishak handed over KOSMA’s RM10,000 mock check to 10 poor UMPSA students.

UMPSA also received a Ramadan donation from the Pahang Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MUIP) of RM100,000 for assistance in providing Iftar Ramadan and Sahur to at least 2,000 students every day during Ramadan.

The Chief Executive Officer of MUIP, Dato' Ahmad Hairi Hussain, presented the mock check.

Other contributions made include the ASNB-UMPSA Excellence Scholarship Fund of RM80,000 to cover the full funding for two UMPSA outstanding students.

PUNB also contributed RM62,500 to UMPSA for zakat and student assistance which benefited 250 UMPSA students at the beginning of this semester.

Meanwhile, UMPSA Advanced contributed RM50,000 to UMPSA for student welfare and development to help students continue learning at UMPSA.

Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (BIMB) fulfils its zakat responsibility by contributing RM20,000 to the UMPSA Student Welfare Fund to be presented to poor and needy students.

Yayasan UMPSA also distributed funds of RM1.8 million to the welfare and development of UMPSA students for Student Zakat, Excellence and Education Incentive Assistance, Campus Pantry and Student Kitchen Assistance and UMPSA Scholarship Sponsorship.
