UMP and HsMA Germany are offering dual degree programme in business engineering

KUALA LUMPUR, 9 February 2022 - The strategic collaboration between Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) and Mannheim University of Applied Sciences (HsMA) will expand international academic collaboration in leading German engineering education (Fachhochschule) in the country.

This collaboration will benefit from sharing expertise in education, research, staff and student exchanges, and industrial training.

The programme saw Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin who performs the functions of UMP Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Industrial Management (FPI), Dr. Mohd. Ahmad Hanafiah signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA).

While HsMA was represented by the Rector of HsMA, Professor Dr. Astrid Hedtke-Becker and the Head of Department of the Faculty of Engineering and Management, Professor Dr. Mathias Hafner who signed the agreement online.

Also present to witness the ceremony was the Chairman of the UMP Board of Directors, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman and the German Ambassador to Malaysia, TYT Dr. Peter Blomeyer.

According to Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz, UMP and HsMA agreed to offer a Business Engineering programme starting the following intake.

“Students will receive two degrees when graduating, namely a Bachelor of Business Engineering from the Faculty of Industrial Management (UMP) and a Bachelor of Engineering and International Management (HsMA).

“UMP, now 20 years old, can take pride in gaining international trust as a result of the successful collaboration program established in 2010 with Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA) and subsequently in 2014 with Reutlingen University (HsRT).

“UMP is also now focusing on the agenda of sustainable development goals (SDG) towards campus sustainability and digitalisation along with future development,” he said.

Meanwhile, Professor Dr. Hedtke-Becker said that this collaboration will strengthen the relationship in exploring opportunities that will benefit both universities.

In addition, it is expected that ten UMP students will have the opportunity to attend two semesters of study in Germany and HsMA students will come to UMP.

In leading engineering education, UMP has also set a target for all faculties in the university to establish international programmes as a benchmark in strengthening academic development in line with the plan in the UMP Strategic Plan 2021-2025.

As one of the universities in the Malaysian Technical University Network (MTUN), UMP offers technical programmes such as engineering, engineering technology, and technology other than the ones considered as soft technical programmes such as computers, science, and industrial management.
