PEKAN, 16 March 2023 - The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman delivered a Public Lecture titled ‘UMP Madani’ which focused on the Malaysia Madani Idea by implementing a comprehensive work movement to realise the university’s desire to achieve the aspirations of the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) in line with the national agenda.
According to Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz, in realising UMP Madani, the university management believed that a good adaptation between the Malaysia Madani framework and the core values that already exist at UMP could produce university residents with great civilisation.
“If we look at the Madani framework, it has a direct relationship with the five UMP core values based on a strong bond with the Creator, steadfast in upholding shared principles, creative in making wise decisions, resolute in facing challenges, and proactive in taking actions,” he said.
Also present at the event were the UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, member of the University Board of Directors, Professor Ir. Dr. Mohd Faizal Jamlos, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Professor Ts. Dr. Kamal Zuhairi Zamli and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed who performs the functions of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International).
He said the Madani framework and UMP Core Values are comprehensively mapped with all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“Meanwhile, talent development efforts, digitalisation, TVET-related initiatives and various ongoing good synergies need to be realised with industry players at the national and global levels.
“UMP places great emphasis on the welfare and development of its students in an effort to produce holistic graduates who are independent, competitive and strive to create a brighter future for our beloved country.
“Hence, this student empowerment agenda needs to be intensified and given a new breath,” he said.
In addition, UMP pays attention to global agendas such as health empowerment that supports the elements of good health and well-being through healthy lifestyle campaigns and focuses on mental health among its residents.
He hoped that UMP associates would always strive to strengthen the culture of sustainable practices at the university to protect the environment and contribute to sustainable development in line with the concept of Malaysia Madani.
The carbon reduction efforts in UMP are also supported by the transition to renewable energy, the development of the Smart Campus, and pioneering efforts to create an Islamic Digital Centre in UMP.
There was also the launch of UMP’s 21st Anniversary Celebration this year and the launch of UMP's Cluster of Knowledge and UMP Sustainable Campus.
