UMP forges collaboration with Lumileds Sdn. Bhd.
Penang, 27 July 2020 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) strengthened its collaboration networking by inking a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with its strategic partner, Lumileds Sdn. Bhd.
Lumileds Sdn. Bhd. is a leading company in LED lighting systems and the manufacturing of lighting application products for automotive and mobile phones, as well as the internet of things (IoT).
It is also a global lighting solutions company that helps customers around the world by maintaining its competitiveness.
In the signing ceremony, UMP was represented by its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ir. Dr. Wan Azhar Wan Yusoff and Lumileds Sdn. Bhd. was represented by its Managing Director, Loganathan Muniandy.
According to Professor Ir. Dr. Wan Azhar, this collaboration focuses on academic programmes and industrial placement for UMP staff and students.
“This includes providing opportunities for postgraduate students to conduct research to assist in solving industrial problems.
“Also explored is the implementation of research and development (R&D) in the field that will be agreed by both parties in addition to corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes,” he said.
The collaboration between UMP and Lumileds stemmed from the placement of a UMP lecturer, Dr. Ummu Kulthum Jamaludin from the Faculty of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering Technology (FTKMA) who was appointed as a fellow in the CEO@Faculty 2.0 (third season) programme at Lumileds Sdn. Bhd. for six months and will end at the end of August.
Also present were the Dean of FTKMA, Professor Dr. Mahadzir Ishak, Dean of the Faculty of Industrial Management (FIM), Dr. Fazeeda Mohamad and Deputy Dean of the Institute of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Dr. Ahmad Razlan Yusoff.
Also in attendance were the former Lumileds Managing Director, Dato’ Dr. Mohd Sofi Osman, Lumileds Director of Human Resources, Wan Ilham Wan Sulaiman, Director of Integration and Research Design Package, Lim Chong Tat and Manager of the Centre of Industry and Community Network (ICoN), Mohd. Raizalhilmy Mohd Rais.
