UMP Press publishes 6 new books

PEKAN, 13 January 2022 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) Press started the new year this time by organising a mini-launch of six of its latest published books at the 6th SUARA UMP Aspirations Ceremony, which was completed by the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering Technology (FTKMA), Professor Dr. Mahadzir Ishak, at the Executive Lounge, UMP Pekan Library.

For Professor Dr. Mahadzir Ishak, an occasion like this – simple as it may seem – actually injects much enthusiasm to others to come together to produce beneficial works or books for the future generations to see and use as a reference.

“Keep in mind that one of the acts that persist after we die is the beneficial knowledge that we teach, convey, and is practised by others.

“Undoubtedly, writing a book is one of the best ways to obtain a lasting reward,” he said.

The brief and laid-back ceremony was quite special when it also launched a dictionary resulting from UMP’s collaboration with the Malaysian Higher Education Leadership Academy (AKEPT).

The AKEPT-UMP Competency Dictionary is arranged by Associate Professor Dr. Ismie Roha Mohamed Jais, late Dr. Mohamad Rozi Hassan, Haryani Abdullah, Muhamad Tasyrif Ghazali, Azian Mohmad Azman, Mohd Izzat Shafie@Mohd Alias, Siti Sakinah Mohtar, and Dr. Muhammad Ashraf Fauzi.

The 400-page dictionary is the first competency dictionary in Malaysia published in Malay.

A large part of the dictionary’s compilers consisted of the administrative officers in the UMP Human Resources Department, and it took almost two years to be published.

According to UMP Press Director Muhammad Azli Shukri, this book launch is unique because it features variations of the publishing genre that ensures UMP Press’s profile remains relevant in the increasingly challenging content industry competition.

“We are not only trying to add value in the content management of academic publications; we even intend to lead the combined segment of academic and creative publications more broadly.

“We also believe that the creative industry is very significant in giving new life to academic content.

“Hence, the combination of administrative officials, academics, industrial bourgeoisie, talented competence groups and social media influencers should form this productive collaboration chain,” he said.

At the same time, Survival Statics Part 1 comic book was also launched, the brainchild of Dr. Luqman Hakim Ahmad Shah, Dr. Azri Alias, Lee Giok Chui, Dr. Mohd Hazwan Yusof, Dr. Daing Nafiz Daing Idris, Dr. Nasrul Hadi Johari and Dr. Azim Arshad.

Not to be missed is the launching of a research book entitled Aditif Makanan: Hukum Penggunaan Menurut Islam dan Isu-isu Halal Semasa by prolific writer Dr. Tuan Sidek Tuan Muda and Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Farhan Mohd Said.

Another three books launched are Job Hunting & Get Hired, which is the work of talented creative writers Dr. Wan Norfazilah Wan Ismail and Ts. Dr. Shamsul Zakaria.

Meanwhile, the other two books are a creative research module book titled Raspberry Pi IoT and  First Guide To Python Programming by Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Nurul Hazlina Noordin and Kamal Khalili Haji Abdullah.
