UMP receives visit and engagement session with BEM
PAYA BESAR, 13 June 2023 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) received a visit and engagement from the Education Malaysia Division (BEM), Department of Higher Education (JPT) to obtain developments and information regarding the management of international students at this university.
The visit led by the Director of Education Malaysia Division (BEM), Dato’ Haji Shushilil Azam Shuib at UMP Gambang Campus was welcomed by the Director of the Centre for International Relations, Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Azmir Mohd Azhari and Dean of the Institute of Postgraduate Studies (IPS), Professor Datin Ts. Dr. Mimi Sakinah Abdul Munaim and university management.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs), Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman also delivered an online speech to welcome the delegation.
In his speech, he appreciated the arrival of BEM to UMP to know the development and planning for the management of international students at UMP.
In this engagement session, UMP also presented seven clusters that have become the main components of the monitoring session involving the International Office management, Study Programme Marketing, Application and Study Offerings Management and VAL and Student Pass Application Management.
"The other clusters are Student and Dependent Welfare Management, Student Termination Management and International Student Alumni Management,” he said.
In addition, this meeting received feedback from the follow-up report of the visit by BEM and Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) in 2020.
Dato’Haji Shushilil Azam said this engagement session could improve collaboration and coordinate issues related to the management of international students.
They also need information related to the feedback that UMP has taken on the outcomes of the 2019/2020 International Student Management Engagement Programme at Public Universities.
Also present were Senior Assistant Director, Internationalization Planning Section, Erizman Soib, Senior Assistant Director, International Student and IPT Coordination Section, Khairul Anwar Samsudin and Assistant Director, Collaboration Section and International Committee Secretariat, Sasirecka d/o Latchimanan.
Also present were the Director of the Centre for Marketing and Academic Intake (PPKA), Zainal Bahari and the Director of the Centre for Alumni Relations and Graduate Employability, Ts. Dr. Azri Alias.
To date, UMP has 534 international students from 27 countries such as Yemen, Bangladesh, Iraq, Pakistan, India, Libya, Sudan, Indonesia, China and Egypt.
