UMP students successfully achieved third place in the MAKUM 2023 Photography Competition
SABAH, 1 Jun 2023 - Muhammad Amir Nuruddin Abdul Jalil, a student from the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Technology (FTKEE), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), successfully secured third place in the overall Malaysian Universities Cultural Council (MAKUM) Sabah Culture Exploration Photography Competition held in Sabah recently.
The MAKUM Sabah Culture Exploration Photography Competition was also hosted by Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) with the theme 'Culture of Sabah State'.
According to Muhammad Amir, a third-year student, he was surprised and touched when announced as the third-place winner in the competition, considering that this was his first participation in the field of photography.
"My interest in photography and videography started during my diploma studies when I was fascinated by the works of my friends who were skilled in this field.
"From that moment, I started to learn editing techniques and made it my hobby to fill my leisure time," he said, who had previously studied at Politeknik Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah.
He further stated that venturing into the field of photography and videography was not an easy task as it requires various techniques, skills, and continuous practice.
"However, the most important aspects are passion, commitment, and patience, especially considering the different field of study pursued in university," he added.
Born in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, he admitted that he enjoys gaining new experiences and knowledge, and this hobby can also serve as an additional source of income throughout his studies.
He is also active in co-curricular activities throughout his studies at UMP, and he holds the position of Multimedia Exco in the UMP Student Sports Council. He is also a member of the Shutter Buster Photography Art Group under the UMP Cultural and Arts Secretariat, known for its captivating artistic works.
Furthermore, he considers photography as a therapy as it brings satisfaction and joy when capturing beautiful moments.
In addition, he hopes to gain more experience and establish collaborations with professional photographers both within and outside the university.
