UMP-UTP’s strategic collaboration in research development best practices and academic excellence
SERI ISKANDAR, 16 February 2023 - The meeting between Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) and Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) provided an opportunity for both parties to share expertise in academics, learning, research development, human resources, student development and financial sustainability.
Also discussed were efforts to provide the best support in the student learning experience to produce high-quality graduates and be ready at the global level.
According to the UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, the meeting provided an opportunity for the two university management to share best practices in the field of engineering and technology.
“UMP will continue to strengthen its efforts in advancing and expanding higher education by focusing on higher level Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
“UMP will also implement digital transformation towards a smart campus to remain relevant to the current needs and expectations of stakeholders based on existing resources and expertise in the fields of big data, internet of things, green campuses and digitalisation,” he said in the recent UMP delegation visit to UTP.
For the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of UTP, Professor Ts. Dr. Hilmi Mukhtar, UTP has joined the rating initiative as it is part of efforts to strengthen the position and brand of the university.
“It can strengthen the reputation and trust of authoritative academic partners for higher education, especially at the international level as well as credible research partners to the industry.
“To accelerate research activities, UTP has six research institutes, two HiCOE (CISIR & CBBR), eight UTP’s COEs, six research centres, three research groups and seven interest groups involving 300 academic staff.
Also present were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), who performs the functions of the UMP Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Professor Ts. Dr. Kamal Zuhairi Zamli, Registrar, Saiful Bahri Ahmad Bakarim and Treasurer, Zainuddin Othman.
UTP was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs), Professor Ts. Dr. Nor Hisham Hamid, Registrar, Associate Professor Dr. Ku Zilati Ku Shaari, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Rosdiazli Ibrahim and Dean of the Faculty of Science and Information Technology, Associate Professor Dr. Jafreezal Jaafar.
UMP delegates also had the opportunity to visit the Information Resources Centre (IRC), Research and Development Centre and around the UTP campus.
