UMP, UUM and UiTM researchers study foreign workers’ management in Malaysia

KUANTAN, 13 July 2022 - A joint group of researchers from three public universities (UA), namely Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), has been entrusted by the Institute of Public Safety of Malaysia (IPSOM) to assist in conducting the study on the Establishment of Specific Entities for the Management of Admission, Issuance, and Termination of Visit Pass (Temporary Employment) or PLKS for foreign workers.

According to the Project Leader, Dr. Suhaidah Hussain, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Industry Management UMP, the study aims to examine the extent of the establishment of a specific entity for the management of admission, issuance, and termination of temporary work visit passes for foreign workers.

They also examined the extent to which the proposed establishment of such specific entities can strengthen the management and control system of IPSOM.

She said the study, which took five months from 1 July 2022, involved several other researchers, Dr. Mohd. Hanafiah Ahmad (UMP), Professor Dr. Abdul Halim Abdul Majid (UUM), Dr. Asmar Abdul Rahim (UUM) and Dr. Ahmad Afif Ahmarofi (UiTM).

“The role of the researcher is to identify existing challenges related to the documentation process for the management of PLKS for foreign workers.

“There is also a study of more effective strategic collaboration between agencies involved in managing PLKS for foreign workers.

“At the same time, it plays a role in giving the proposal of the feasibility of establishing a specific identity in the management of PLKS for foreign workers,” she said.

She added that the results of this study would be used to develop a policy on establishing a specific entity in the management of PLKS for foreign workers in Malaysia.

“We would like to express our gratitude to the Immigration Department of Malaysia and IPSOM, Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) for giving us the opportunity and trust to carry out this study.

“At the same time, we also hope that the results of this study will help the country in improving the implementation process of PLKS and assisting in the development of policies under KDN,” she said.
