UMPSA implements Attendance Recording Method using geofencing (polygon) feature

PEKAN, 12 February 2026 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) has implemented the Check-In and Check-Out Attendance Recording Method using the geofencing (polygon) feature, effective from 9 February 2026 (Monday).

With this implementation, staff only need to be within the designated geofencing area and are no longer required to connect to the UMPSA Wi-Fi network for Check-In and/or Check-Out purposes.

According to the Registrar of UMPSA, Dato’ Saiful Bahri Ahmad Bakarim, this initiative is part of efforts towards implementing a more efficient digital ecosystem.

“At present, staff may still record attendance via the UMPSA portal or by using the e-Comm application without geofence implementation until 30 June 2026.

“This method will be fully discontinued effective from 1 July 2026.

“In line with the introduction of this new feature, any Check-In and Check-Out records recorded outside the geofence area (Outside UMPSA) will be considered an offence and may be subject to disciplinary action,” he said.

However, the requirement for Check-In and Check-Out remains subject to the prevailing circulars and guidelines currently in force.

A geofence is a virtual boundary or fence created around a specific geographical feature.

A geofence can be dynamically generated, for example, based on a radius around a single location point, or it can be defined according to a predetermined set of boundaries.

The UMPSA ECOMM application will use the geofencing polygon method for staff attendance detection, and the application will only determine whether a user is inside or outside the designated area.

Attendance via mobile devices will depend entirely on geofencing without any Wi-Fi verification.

This allows staff to perform Check-In and Check-Out using UMPSA Wi-Fi or personal Wi-Fi/mobile data.

He also advised the UMPSA community to download and update the latest version of the E-Comm app as notified by the Digital Technology Centre.
