UMPSA Lake attracts anglers for UMPSA's 21st Anniversary Celebration
PEKAN, 14 October 2023 - The lake at Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) in Pekan became a focal point for anglers as over 200 people, along with their families, gathered for a Fishing Competition in conjunction with UMPSA's 21st Anniversary Celebration and in anticipation of UMPSA's 18th Convocation Ceremony to be held from 21st to 24th October.
The programme was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor of UMPSA, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin.
Also in attendance were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs), Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman, and the Director of the Centre for Property Management and Development (PPPH), Izwan Ismail.
Present at the event were the Manager/Head of the Chancellor's Office, Muhammad Faisal Mohd Yasin, the Director of the Centre for Corporate Communications (PKK), Mimi Rabita Haji Abdul Wahit, and the Director of the Sports and Culture Centre, Mohd Aznorizamin Haji Ismail.
According to Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie, the organization of this event is also one of UMPSA's branding activities to bring the university closer to the local community.
"Additionally, it is a response to the university's call to make UMPSA Pekan one of the Education-Tourism Centre (Edu-Tourism) in Pekan, Pahang.
"This programme involves participation from the communities in the Pekan and Kuantan districts as well as the East Coast.
"UMPSA always emphasizes the preservation and conservation of the environment, including ensuring the cleanliness of this lake so as not to disrupt the ecosystem of life in the lake," he said while meeting with anglers and school students at the campsite.
Furthermore, he added that the lake is also suitable for the public to engage in sports and a healthy lifestyle, including recreational activities such as camping and paddle boating.
At the same time, a camping activity took place at the Water Recreation Park, involving 70 students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Temerloh Jaya.
The competition witnessed the grand prize being won by Zamani Osman, 45, who took home a cash prize of RM 3,000 when he successfully caught a 3.72 kg Patin fish at 10.45 am.
The second place was won by the staff of the Centre for Property Management and Development of UMPSA, Abdul Walik Yusuf, who brought home a prize worth RM 1,000.
The third place was won by Mohd Nor Aiman Hakim, who successfully took home a cash prize of RM 700.
All prizes were presented by the Vice-Chancellor of UMPSA, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin.
