ALAM UMPSA Community Programme Phase 2 plants 300 trees in Rimba Lestari

PEKAN, 21 June 2024 – In raising awareness about the importance of forests for well-being and quality of life in addition to efforts to improve ecosystems and biodiversity, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) organised the ALAM UMPSA Community Programme Phase 2 to foster the spirit of love for nature.

The programme, run by the Centre for Industry and Community Network (ICoN), was attended by approximately 60 participants, including postgraduate students from the Institute of Postgraduate Studies (IPS), UMPSA Library staff, as well as staff from Security Division and Centre for Property Management and Development (PPPH).

According to the Assistant Vice-Chancellor for Industry and Community Network, Professor Datin Ts. Dr. Mimi Sakinah Abdul Munaim, this programme aimed to increase the involvement of the university community in environmental conservation activities.

“With the involvement of students and staff in tree planting activities, this programme can strengthen the relationship between them and build a spirit of cooperation in caring for the environment.

“The programme began with aerobics activity followed by the main event, tree planting.

“A total of 300 trees have been successfully planted through this programme,” she said.

She added that the main purpose of this programme was to foster awareness about the importance of environmental sustainability among university residents and the local community.

“This programme also provides a practical education platform about the environment.

“Through this activity, participants can learn firsthand about the tree planting process and its benefits to the ecosystem.

“In the meantime, with a positive response from the participants, this programme is expected to have a long-term impact on the conservation and preservation of the environment,” she said.

She hoped that this hands-on experience could increase the awareness and knowledge of participants on the importance of preserving the environment.
