4,259 UMPSA graduands set to graduate starting tomorrow
GAMBANG, 7 November 2025 – A total of 4,259 graduands of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) will be celebrated in the 20th UMPSA Convocation Ceremony, which will take place from 8 to 10 November at the UMPSA Sports Complex Hall, UMPSA Gambang Campus.
Of this total, 243 are postgraduate graduands comprising 94 doctors of philosophy (PhD) and 149 master’s, 2,900 undergraduate graduands comprising 2,096 bachelor’s degree graduands, 97 dual degree graduands, six part-time bachelor’s degree graduands, 701 diploma graduands, and 1,116 graduands of the UMPSA Advanced lifelong learning programme.
According to the Vice-Chancellor of UMPSA, Professor Dr Yatimah Alias, of the overall number, 78 are international graduands from 16 countries, including Bangladesh, China, Yemen, Libya, Indonesia, and others.
In the first session, a total of 340 postgraduate and dual degree graduands will receive their awards from the Pro-Chancellor of UMPSA, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr) Abi Musa Asa’ri Mohamed Nor, and he will also confer bachelor’s degrees and diplomas to 1,046 graduands of the Faculty of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering Technology, the Faculty of Manufacturing and Mechatronics Engineering Technology, and the Faculty of Computing, including 48 recipients of academic excellence awards and prizes in the second session.
Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr) Abi will also confer bachelor’s degrees and diplomas to 808 graduands of the Faculty of Industrial Science and Technology, the Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering Technology, and the Centre for Mathematical Sciences, including 36 recipients of academic excellence awards and prizes in the third session.
Meanwhile, on the second day, the fourth session will witness the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Yatimah Alias, conferring bachelor’s degrees and diplomas to 949 graduands of the Faculty of Civil Engineering Technology, the Faculty of Industrial Management, and the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology, including 43 recipients of academic excellence awards and prizes.
For the fifth session, Professor Dr Yatimah will confer executive master’s degrees, executive bachelor’s degrees, and professional and executive diplomas to 1,116 graduands of UMPSA Advanced, including two recipients of academic excellence awards and prizes.
“This ceremony also creates history with the conferment to 45 pioneering graduands of the Dual Degree Programme between UMPSA and Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) in railway-related engineering, making UMPSA the first public university in Malaysia to offer a dual degree programme in this country,” she said.
Professor Dr Yatimah added that UMPSA remains committed to creating innovation and uniqueness in its academic programme offerings through strategic international partnerships.
Engineering programmes that adopt a world-class model, such as the collaborative programme with Karlsruhe University of Applied Science (HKA), Germany, are seen as the best benchmark for universities in Malaysia.
She stated that UMPSA is the only public university in this country that has an international collaborative programme with the strategic partner Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA), now entering its 15th year, and to date, eleven dual degree programmes have been implemented, successfully producing 354 alumni.
“Since the first convocation in 2006, UMPSA has produced more than 52,000 graduates, including more than 1,100 international graduates in various fields of engineering, technology, and management.
Based on data from the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), UMPSA’s employability rate for 2024 reached 99 per cent with 357 graduates now working abroad,” she said while chairing the Press Conference in conjunction with the 20th UMPSA Convocation Ceremony at the UMPSA Sports Complex.
She added that based on the Graduate Tracer Study System (SKPG), Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), UMPSA achieved 99.1 per cent for the 2024 Graduate Employability (GE) rate, referring to the proportion of graduates employed within the labour force.
Meanwhile, the 2024 Graduate Marketability (GM) rate successfully reached 99.0 per cent, covering the status of employment, further studies, skills enhancement, and awaiting job placement.
At the same time, Professor Dr Yatimah also expressed appreciation to graduands with disabilities (OKU) and prayed for the recovery of Dr Siti Hawa Apandi, a PhD graduand of the Faculty of Computing who is currently receiving treatment at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan.
She was supposed to attend to receive her award in the first session of this convocation.
In addition, she said that five posthumous awards will also be presented to the families of graduands who passed away during their studies as a mark of the university’s appreciation for their efforts and achievements.
Also present at the press conference were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs), Professor Dato’ Ir. Ts. Dr Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman, and the Registrar, Dato Saiful Bahri Ahmad Bakarim.
