Age 83 is not a hindrance Dr. Jahid gets a second PhD
PAYA BESAR, 5 November 2022 - A sense of responsibility to empower the practice of Islamic medicine became the reason for Dr. Haji Jahid Sidek to complete his second doctoral thesis (PhD) at Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP).
At the age of 83, he is the oldest student in Malaysia to receive a second Doctor of Philosophy degree delivered by the UMP Pro-Chancellor, Tan Sri Dato Sri (Dr.) Abi Musa Asa’ari Mohamed Nor during the first session of the 17th UMP Convocation Ceremony.
“For this second PhD, I conducted a specific study on an Islamic treatment method known as Islamic Spiritual Reflexology (RSI),” he said.
“This study was done to invigorate the development of Islamic medicine practice that is growing in Malaysia.
“Although at first it was a bit challenging, especially in collecting data, I gathered my strength to continue working along with a sense of responsibility to provide sharia-compliant Islamic treatment services to the community,” he said.
Dr. Haji Jahid had served as Associate Professor at the Islamic Studies Academy, University of Malaya (UM).
He continued his preaching efforts through lectures and consultations at various levels, state, national and international, after retiring in 1995.
He was appointed as the President of BUDI Welfare Association, Selangor State Riqab Rehabilitation Figure 2010, JAKIM Tasawuf Expert, and Jalsah Turuq Suffiyyah Negeri Sembilan panel.
