Aiman, a graduate with disabilities, secures UMPSA Degree
KUANTAN, 21 October 2023 – Self-limitations did not hinder a graduate with disabilities (OKU) from holding a degree at the 18th Convocation Ceremony of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) held at the UMPSA Sports Complex in Gambang recently.
Muhammad Aiman Hakimi Fadzilah, 26, has been suffering from Brain Vessels in Bains AVM since his diploma studies at UMPSA. Aiman, a graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, said that his academic journey at UMPSA has been filled with memories.
"I entered UMPSA by initially pursuing a diploma, but in the final semester, a tragedy occurred while I was taking a shower.
"I experienced a problem where one side of my body couldn't move, leading to brain surgery.
"This incident resulted in a stroke and coma, forcing me to suspend my studies for two years," he said.
During that time, he mentioned, it was a critical period when he lost his memory and abilities.
"Thanks to the patience of my parents and medical experts, my memory problems gradually improved, and I could walk slowly.
"Sometimes, I would be assisted using a cane or a wheelchair.
"Alhamdulillah, after a two-year study break, I resumed my studies until completion," he said.
He mentioned that he then decided to continue his studies at the undergraduate level.
"I am grateful that despite my limitations, it did not prevent me from obtaining a degree.
"I also want to express my gratitude to my parents, faculty staff, and my good friend, Farid Aizudin Sanusi, who provided much assistance and encouragement throughout my studies.
"I now have an OKU card, and the dream of becoming an engineer has to be set aside," he said.
He added that this, however, did not break his spirit to constantly improve his skills in the relevant field.
He is currently undergoing the Professional Certification Course (KPT-PACE) for the CIDB BIM Modeller Certification (Architectural and Structural).
