Challenges are no barrier for Muhammad Adhwa in earning his degree

GAMBANG, 27 October 2024 – Muhammad Adhwa Mohd Salemi, 24, has proven that his disability is not an obstacle to his success as he received his degree at the 19th Convocation Ceremony of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA).

The graduate with a Bachelor of Software Engineering and a visually impaired (OKU) individual has never allowed his condition to hinder his progress.

According to him, he plans to continue his studies to the Master’s by Research at UMPSA.

“This demonstrates that no barriers can stop me from moving forward,” he said.

“Being visually impaired is a significant challenge, but I see it as an opportunity to strengthen my inner resolve and hone my technical and social skills.

“I also believe that every challenge is an opportunity to learn, grow, and inspire others,” he added.

Muhammad Adhwa is highly active in volunteer and community development activities.

He is a volunteer with the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) under the Know Your Medicine Ambassador programme and is actively involved in various community and self-development initiatives.

Additionally, he is an alumnus of the Axiata Young Talent Programme and the Axiata Digital Leaders Programme.

“These programmes have shaped me in aspects of digital leadership and self-development, providing me with the knowledge to progress further in today’s challenging world,” he explained.

“I am also an alumnus of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Foundation.

“My involvement in the foundation allowed me to participate in various community and self-development activities.

“This experience further strengthened my resolve to serve society, particularly in helping those in need,” he added.

However, Muhammad Adhwa does not forget that his success results from the unwavering support and guidance of those close to him.

He said he could not have succeeded without the guidance and support of his family, especially his mother, who is his source of inspiration.

“My siblings and friends have also been by my side, providing encouragement and strength as I faced various challenges.

“Every achievement I’ve accomplished reflects the dedication and love of those close to me.

“In addition, I am currently in the process of becoming a permanent volunteer under Mercy Malaysia,” he stated.

He has had the opportunity to serve local and international communities in need.

He is also involved with the Global Peace Foundation Malaysia, focusing on underserved communities, especially the Orang Asli in Pahang.

His involvement with these organisations has further strengthened his determination to contribute to the development of underprivileged communities, not only in Malaysia but globally.

Another valuable experience in Adhwa’s life was participating in a mobility programme to Turkiye for one semester.

He said the experience broadened his perspective in terms of education, social interactions, and community life.

“The experience in Turkiye taught me the meaning of resilience in different circumstances, being far from family and my beloved country.

“However, that’s what made me more mature, independent, and appreciative of the opportunities around me.

“For me, receiving this degree is not just a personal achievement; it symbolises all the challenges I have overcome, every sacrifice made, and every moment of determination I have poured in,” he shared.

Moreover, he added, this accomplishment is more than that—it represents the first step towards realising his dream of continuing to contribute to society, particularly in education, self-development, and supporting those in need.

“Receiving this degree is not the end; instead, it is the beginning of a greater journey.

“Thus, I believe that with continuous effort and support, no barriers are insurmountable.

“This is the path I have chosen, and I am confident I will continue moving forward with determination and confidence,” he concluded.
