Jeckey Ng Kah Poo receives Presidential Award of Academic Excellence from Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM)
GAMBANG, 21 October 2023 - The COVID-19 pandemic did not prevent Jeckey Ng Kah Poo, a graduand of Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (Electronics) with Honours, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) from being more focused and not giving up.
According to the recipient of the Presidential Award of Academic Excellence from the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), online learning challenges and external factors prevented him from giving a 100% focus on learning.
“The biggest contributor to my success today is my mother, Kansulim Tamboron, 62, who is a Kadazan housewife.
“Meanwhile, my father, Ng Kon Foo, 56, is a Chinese from Malacca.
This Malacca-born managed to obtain the Dean’s List Award for seven consecutive semesters throughout his study with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.84.
The youngest of five siblings strongly adheres to the principles of ‘Play hard, work smart’ and ‘Don’t be afraid of any challenges; it will only make you stronger and stronger’.
“UMPSA provides many facilities for sports such as badminton courts, basketball courts, tennis and futsal,” he explained.
Jeckey likes to sing, play e-sports and swim.
During his study, he also participated in the Lantern Festival Week in 2019 and was an Exco member for the Moonwalk and Mooncake Workshop Programme organised by UMPSA.
He thanked his supervisor, Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohd Zamri Ibrahim, a lecturer from the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Technology (FTKEE), UMPSA who gave a lot of support and encouragement during his final year project.
“I believe knowledge and success can change and make life more comfortable, especially for my parents,” he explained his desire.
