Khay Wey receives Setegap Ventures Petroleum Industry Excellence Prize
KUANTAN, 17 March 2022 – A Diploma in Chemical Engineering (Process Plant) graduand, Ng Khay Wey, 23, did not expect to be selected as the Excellence Prize Setegap Ventures recipient Petroleum Sdn. Bhd. in the Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) 15th Convocation Ceremony.
She received the prize presented by the Pro-Chancellor, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Abi Musa Asa’ari Mohamed Nor during the first session of the ceremony held at Dewan Jubli Perak Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah, Kuantan.
This Kuantan native successfully graduated with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.91 and earned the Dean’s List for four semesters.
She said UMP is a university with great facilities and the lecturers are professional and responsible for providing a good learning experience to the students.
“The value of cooperation is one of the most important values I have learned at UMP.
“Most of the learning at UMP emphasises critical thinking skills and we always deal with people.
“Therefore, we need to learn to work together to face any obstacles,” she said.
She added that despite the circumstances we have been through whether good or bad, they are shaping us today.
“So believe in yourself,” she said.
This youngest of three siblings made her family one of the biggest contributors to her success.
She added that her father, who always provided support and sent her to the hostel without complaining and her mother, who always cooked her favourite dishes, were a big boost for her study at UMP.
She, fondly known as Jiawei, advised students to use their time during the pandemic wisely to develop new skills or improve existing skills.
Ng Khay Wey is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Skudai.
