SIR Corner and YBR Foundation's Study Aid benefit UMP students
PAYA BESAR, 12 June 2023 - The presence of the ‘Serambi Ilmu Rakyat’ (SIR – People's Knowledge) Corner at the Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) Library will be an important value-added feature to enhance comprehensive access to information resources for education and research at UMP.
Through the collaboration between the Bank Rakyat Foundation (YBR) and the UMP Library, it provides opportunities for students to explore various digital knowledge sources.
The ceremony witnessed the inauguration of the SIR Corner by UMP's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato' Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, together with the Chief Executice Officer of Bank Rakyat Foundation, Syaiful Abdul Ghani, and the Deputy Chief Librarian, Kamariah Gono, who acted as the Chief Librarian of UMP.
According to Professor Dato' Ts. Dr. Yuserrie, with the presence of the SIR Corner, the collections of renowned works by scholars and leading industry experts from around the world can be accessed at their fingertips through a collection of 100,000 high-quality digital resources.
"The available digital collection covers various topics such as engineering, business, economics, finance, social sciences, and many more.
"This effort is also a continuation to support the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) in ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all," he said.
Furthermore, he stated that in ensuring students are equipped with knowledge and skills in line with the digital era and the fourth industrial revolution, UMP's management always supports efforts to adapt collections and resources to meet the needs of emerging fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), data science, robotics, and cybersecurity.
"Moreover, providing access to advanced resources in these fields demonstrates that the Library contributes to the development of specialized knowledge and skills among UMP students," he added.
At the same time, the initiative to provide RM100,000 Study Aid or ‘Bantuan Awal Pendidikan’ (BAP) to 100 selected UMP students through the Student Affairs and Alumni Department (JHEPA) took place. This aid aims to reduce the financial burden on students and ensure that every student has access to quality education.
