UMPSA collaborates with Elsevier, first public university in Malaysia to access ‘Scival’ to increase impactful publication reach
PUTRAJAYA, 3 September 2025 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) is the first public university (UA) in Malaysia to subscribe to ‘SciVal’, a Scopus data-based analytical tool, as a facility for the university’s lecturers and students to enhance reach that brings impact to the university’s research ecosystem at the international level.
This success is the result of collaboration between UMPSA and Elsevier, a renowned academic publisher that provides access to various scholarly journals in diverse fields, which will benefit lecturers and students in accessing all journals, guidebooks, videos, and other resources.
The ceremony witnessed the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Professor Ts. Dr. Aida Mustapha, exchanging a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with the Regional Vice-President Research Intelligence & Engineering, Asia Pacific, Jessica Low, and witnessed by Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Ts. Mustapha Sakmud.
Also present were the Secretary of the Policy and Research Division, Ministry of Higher Education, Dr. Zurina Abdul Hamid, Customer Success Manager, Dr. Benny Ang, UMPSA Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs), Professor Dato Ir. Ts. Dr Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman, Director of the Centre for Strategic & Quality Management, Professor ChM. Dr. Chong Kwok Feng, and Director of the Research Management Centre, Associate Professor Dr. Norhayati Rosli.
According to Professor Ts. Dr. Aida, this collaboration with Elsevier also enables the university to analyse publication data in the Scopus database strategically.
“In fact, it also allows UMPSA to plan appropriate strategies to enhance the quality of research in producing scholarly works, as well as to facilitate collaboration among researchers at the international level.
“With access to these tools, UMPSA can increase the level of publications and the visibility of its research output at the global level.
“This collaboration provides benefits including developing global cooperation across disciplines as well as enhancing UMPSA’s impact and reputation at the international level,” she said.
At the same time, Professor Ts. Dr. Aida delivered a keynote speech entitled ‘Amplifying Research Impact through Strategic Research Analytics’ at the Research Impact Summit 2025 jointly organised by Elsevier and Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK), held at Zenith Hotel Putrajaya.
