UMPSA ranks 588th in QS World University Rankings 2027, best university in MTUN

PEKAN, 18 June 2026 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) continues to strengthen its position as the best university among the Malaysia Technical University Network (MTUN) through its outstanding achievement in the QS World University Rankings 2027.

In the rankings announced today by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), UMPSA was ranked 588th in the world, improving from 609th last year.

The achievement also placed UMPSA eighth among public universities and 15th among higher education institutions (HEIs) in Malaysia.

The UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ts. Dr. Yatimah Alias, said the achievement is a recognition of the collective efforts of the entire university community, which has continuously strived to improve the quality of education, advance innovation, and produce globally competitive graduates.

“In addition, this success demonstrates UMPSA’s continued commitment to strengthening academic excellence, high-impact research, internationalisation, and strategic relations with industry, in line with the university’s aspiration to become an Advanced TVET Hub by 2030.

“As the best university in MTUN, this is a very proud achievement and reflects the strength of the education, research, and industry collaboration ecosystem developed by UMPSA.

“This success will serve as a catalyst for UMPSA to continue strengthening its reputation as a world-class technology and engineering university and contribute to national development through Advanced TVET education,” she said.

She added that UMPSA is now moving towards becoming the Asia-Pacific Advanced TVET Hub by 2030 and a leading technological university by 2050.

“In our efforts to achieve this aspiration, UMPSA must continue to strengthen its international network, particularly with institutions that share a commitment to practical, industry-relevant, and future-ready education,” she said.

She extended her highest congratulations and appreciation to the entire UMPSA community for their dedication, commitment, and contributions that have led to this proud achievement.

“May this success serve as a catalyst for greater excellence and further elevate UMPSA’s name on the international stage,” she said.

The QS World University Rankings 2027 evaluates university performance based on nine key indicators covering academic reputation, research citations, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, graduate employability, international faculty, international research network, international students, and sustainability.

This achievement further strengthens UMPSA’s position as a technical higher education institution of choice, not only in Malaysia but also with growing recognition internationally.
