UMPSA students captivated by display of 120 luxury and antique vehicles

GAMBANG, 4 August 2024 – A total of 120 students from Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) were excited to witness the gathering of 120 luxury and antique vehicles at the UMPSA Chancellery Grounds, Gambang Campus, during the Ramah Mesra programme and Luxury and Antique Car Gathering, in conjunction with the Kuantan Festival 188.

The roar of the vehicles broke the silence of the campus when they started arriving at 8:30 AM. They were welcomed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student and Alumni Affairs) of UMPSA, Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed, who was present on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor of UMPSA.

Also in attendance were the General Manager of the Student and Alumni Affairs Department (JHEPA), Haryani Abdullah, and the Director of the Corporate Communication Centre, Mimi Rabita Haji Abd Wahit.

According to Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim, the gathering of luxury and antique vehicles at UMPSA was an exciting attraction for students, and the university was pleased to be chosen as a stopover destination, offering the public a chance to witness these valuable cars as part of the Kuantan Festival 188.

"Thank you to Menara 188 and the three motoring associations — Porsche Club Malaysia, The Driverz, and Kelab Kereta Antik Pahang — for making UMPSA a stopover destination before heading to Kuantan, helping to make the K188 Cars & Coffee programme a success in conjunction with the Kuantan 188 Festival," he said.

UMPSA was proud to contribute to the success of this event, demonstrating support for the Kuantan 188 Festival 2024, which was held in celebration of the Birthdays of His Majesty the Sultan of Pahang on 30 July 2024 and Her Majesty Tengku Ampuan Pahang on 5 August 2024.

He also noted that the event allowed convoy participants to engage with the UMPSA community, fostering interaction, strengthening relationships, and supporting the university's branding efforts.

“In addition, this event provided a great opportunity for UMPSA students, especially those interested in Engineering and Technology, to learn about the advanced features of the vehicles on display,” he added.

The president of the Pahang Antique Car Club, Mohd Amirul Ihsan, expressed his gratitude to UMPSA for providing excellent service and appreciated the warm response from the students.

Meanwhile, Science and Technology Foundation Programme student Sharifah Maisarah Syed Ahmad Faris Aljunid, 18, said she was thrilled to see various types of luxury and antique vehicles up close.

“The vehicle owners were very generous in sharing their experiences and knowledge about the technology and uniqueness of their cars.

“Even more exciting, I was also selected to receive a Menara Kuantan 188 Ticket Voucher in the lucky draw session,” she added.

This sweet experience meant a lot to her as a new student who had just registered at the end of July.

In addition to the K188 Cars and Coffee exhibition, the Kuantan 188 Festival, which lasted for three days from August 2 to 4, also featured the Royal Pahang F3000 Powerboat Championship and the K188 Fun Race, both of which were well-received by the people of Pahang.
