UMP, Huawei Services (Hong Kong) Co., Limited improve collaboration in telecommunications and mobile application technology
KUALA LUMPUR, 4 July 2022 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Huawei Services (Hong Kong) Co. Limited, which recently took place at Huawei Technologies, Intermark Kuala Lumpur.
The MoU is the outcome of academic collaboration to develop training programmes, webinars, workshops, Hackaton, Huawei Developer Group and sharing expertise for mutual benefit.
The ceremony saw the UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin and Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) Technical Director, Asia Africa and Latin America, Charles Li Guo Liang exchange MoU documents.
Also in attendance were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rosli Hainin, Dean of the Faculty of Computing (FK), Associate Professor Ts. Dr Adzhar Kamaludin and Talent Ecosystem Manager, Malaysia Enterprise Partner Development Department, Malaysia, Astee Chan Poh Ting.
Also present were Senior Engineer, HMS Development Team, Mr. Tan Wei Cong and the Human Resources Specialist of the Human Resources Development Department of APAC, Ho Jia Yun.
According to Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie, UMP and Huawei Services (Hong Kong) Co., Limited will work together to form a technology skills programme that can improve competent abilities, digital expertise and skills in addition to developing graduate capacities through exposure to the real needs of the industry.
“This signed MoU will also explore collaboration in the development of smart cities using the latest telecommunications technology for the development of smart campus projects, UMP-Huawei Smart City which will also contribute towards achieving sustainable development in Malaysia.
“This collaboration aligns with the university’s aspiration in the UMP Strategic Plan 2021-2025 to empower strategic collaboration with domestic and foreign industries.
“To date, 30 staff and students have received professional certificates in the Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) Basic Course, which is carried out in collaboration with Huawei,” he said.
Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie believed that with the ability, expertise and collaboration between UMP and Huawei in the field of advanced technology, electrical and electronics and with the advanced facilities provided by Huawei, this programme will enhance sustainable skills and competitiveness among Malaysians as well as develop local talent groups.
There was also a discussion of UMP activities and collaboration programmes with the Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Technologies Malaysia Sdn. Bhd, Micheal Yuan in the CEO@Faculty Programme in the context of lifelong learning, research, improvement of academic programmes from an industry perspective and staff attachment programmes.
The CEO@Faculty programme is one of the initiatives that provides a platform for industry and public service leaders to share knowledge, experience and expertise with academics.
