UMPSA, Omron Electronics (M) Sdn. Bhd. solidify collaboration to produce competent students

PUTRAJAYA, 20 February 2024 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) and Omron Electronics (M) Sdn. Bhd. have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in the field of education and training to produce competent students.

The ceremony took place at Zenith Hotel, Putrajaya.

UMPSA was represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Community Linkages) of UMPSA, Professor Datin Ts. Dr. Mimi Sakinah Abdul Munaim, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Technology (FTKEE), Associate Professor Dr. Hamdan Daniyal, and Director of the Advanced TVET Centre, Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Shahrir Mohd Sani.

Meanwhile, Omron was represented by its Managing Director, Lee Kok Soong, Sales Manager, Alvin Choi Kwok Weh, and OMRON Account Manager, Sharizal Ahmad.

Professor Datin Ts. Dr. Mimi Sakinah Abdul Munaim, in her speech, congratulated the Advanced TVET Centre of UMPSA for successfully establishing a Certified Training Centre with Omron Company.

"The selection of Omron Sdn. Bhd. is based on UMPSA's confidence in their expertise and technology in the fields of Automation, Sensors, Robotic Controls, and the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

"This Training Centre focuses on offering training in Automation and Robotics.

"In addition, this collaboration will optimize the use of existing equipment at UMPSA as the laboratories at UMPSA have long been using Omron brand equipment such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)," she said.

She hoped that Omron certification would certainly add value to the students and contribute to enhancing their employability.

"In implementing this course, a total of 12 certified instructors from the Advanced TVET Centre and FTKEE will offer competency courses to students starting this year," she said.

Meanwhile, Omron's Managing Director, Lee Kok Soong, said that the collaboration with UMPSA is one of the company's efforts under corporate social responsibility (CSR) towards universities and communities.

"OMRON Sdn. Bhd. has expertise and technology in the fields of automation, sensors, controls, robotics, and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which can help UMPSA in adding value to UMPSA students.

"OMRON is ready to assist UMPSA in establishing laboratories with equipment that are mostly made in Malaysia," he said.

Through this collaboration, various other programmes can also be held such as Train the Trainer (TTT), developing training modules relevant to current needs, placement for students to undergo industrial training at OMRON, and knowledge sharing sessions between both parties.
