UMPSA organized ICCEIB, focuses on the SDG collaborative approach to food, energy, and water security
PUTRAJAYA, 28 August 2024 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) organized the 7th International Conference on Chemical Engineering & Industrial Biotechnology (ICCEIB) 2024, held from 27 to 29 August 2024, in Putrajaya.
ICCEIB 2024, with the theme 'Collaborative Approach to SDG: Catalyzing Sustainability in Food, Energy, and Water Security,' was conducted for the first time in a hybrid format, broadening the scope of participation and involvement from delegates worldwide.
The three-day conference attracted more than 100 participants from countries including Vietnam, Jordan, Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and Norway.
According to UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato' Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, a total of 155 abstract submissions were received, and the papers were thoroughly reviewed, demonstrating great potential for publication in prestigious journals such as the Journal of Chemical Technology and Biotechnology (Wiley-VCH, Q2, IF 3.709), as well as in indexed journals under MyCite.
"In addition, all accepted papers will be submitted to Scopus-indexed proceedings, Journal of Physics: Conference Series, and Lecture Notes in Multidisciplinary Industrial Engineering (Springer)," he said.
"UMPSA is committed to advancing research and commercialization activities in the fields of Chemical Engineering and Industrial Biotechnology, with a focus on securing essential resources such as food, energy, and water."
"In alignment with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we have established numerous collaborations with industry partners and academic institutions locally and internationally, to promote a sustainable future," he added.
The opening ceremony of ICCEIB 2024 also witnessed Professor Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UMPSA and Crescent Engineering (M) Sdn. Bhd., represented by its Managing Director, Mohamad Azmi Kamari.
This collaboration will also benefit from the exchange of expertise in Work-Based Learning (WBL), a pedagogical approach aimed at equipping students with mastery of academic content through workplace-based activities and industrial training.
Also present at the event were Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs) Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman, Dean of the Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering Technology (FTKKP) Dr. Sumaiya Zainal Abidi @ Murad, and ICCEIB 2024 Chairman Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Saidatul Shima Jamari.
