UMPSA signs memorandum of understanding with COHU Malaysia to strengthen industry-academia collaboration
AYER KEROH, MELAKA, 18 August 2025 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) continues to strengthen its strategic collaboration network with the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with COHU Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. held at Ayer Keroh, Melaka.
The ceremony witnessed the signing of the MoU between UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Yatimah Alias, and Vice President of Malaysia Operations, Stephanie Luthi.
Also present was the Dean of the Faculty of Manufacturing and Mechatronic Engineering Technology (FTKPM), Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Faiz Mohd Turan.
According to Professor Dr. Yatimah Alias, this collaboration is another significant achievement in UMPSA’s efforts to forge synergy between the university and industry to ensure graduates are more competitive and aligned with labour market needs.

“This collaboration is not merely a formality but extends to knowledge sharing, talent development, and research, which can bring great impact to both parties.
“This initiative will also empower students through work-based training, enhance graduate employability, and strengthen UMPSA’s research ecosystem,” she said.
Among the collaborations agreed upon include opportunities for industrial training and Work-Based Learning (WBL) programmes for students and staff, potential talent recruitment from UMPSA for COHU, organisation of joint academic programmes combining theory and practical learning, joint lectures, symposia, conferences and workshops, exchange of expertise, information, learning materials as well as technological and scientific resources, joint research development particularly in the fields of semiconductors, metrology, data analytics, and related technologies.
UMPSA is optimistic that this collaboration will open up wider opportunities in talent development, technological innovation, and high-impact research in line with the university’s aspiration as a leader in technical higher education in the country.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Yatimah Alias, also expressed appreciation to the management of COHU Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. for their commitment and willingness to collaborate, while hoping this initiative can expand into more areas in the future.
