A total of 1,260 students from Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) who are still staying on campus are monitored continuously by the UMP management to ensure their welfare and wellbeing.

They cannot return to their hometowns when the Movement Control Order (MCO) directive was activated to curb the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak.

During the MCO period, the university has been receiving assistance from the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) with food preparation for the students.

Also contributed was the Women’s Institute of Malaysia (WI) Kuantan Branch, Sabah Foundation for 165 students from Sabah and Faculty of Chemical & Process Engineering Technology that sponsored meals for its 80 students.

According to the Manager of Student Services Division, Student Affairs and Alumni Department, Zainal Haji Bahari, UMP always monitors and ensures all students to adhere to the MCO directive.

“They are also advised to update with the information issued by UMP on preventing the spread of the Covid-19 and health care via UMP portal or social media.

“UMP also manages daily free food for the students who stay on campus through the principal and fellows of residential colleges.

“Through this approach, students movement can be limited and thus reducing the risk of infection.

“The distribution is assisted by the management of their residential colleges,” he said.

In addition, UMP Campus Pantry has gathered basic necessities and dry food through the contribution from Food Bank Malaysia under the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) and external parties such as Malaysia Muslim Welfare Foundation (MyFundAction) and individual contributions for UMP students.

The university is indebted to the contributors, especially Food Bank Malaysia, KPDNHEP, Gardenia Bakeries Sdn. Bhd., Etika Beverages, Mondalez, Legasi Sufi, the Office of Paya Besar Parliamentary Offices of Paya Besar and Pekan.

Among the contributions are cooked food, dry food, drinks and hygiene kits.

Also contributed was UMP Foundation with 20,000 for the use during the MCO period.

Meanwhile, UMP Alumni Association of UMP contributed liquid hand sanitisers, and the Pahang State Disaster Committee contributed 1,000 face masks to the students.

UMP highly appreciates the contributions and concerns from the government and companies for their corporate social responsibilities as an effort to enlighten the burden throughout the MCO period.

The public who intend to donate may do so through the UMP Operational and Disaster Control Room that acts as the one-stop centre for managing all matters related to Covid-19 involving all UMP denizens.

UMP associates may proceed with their relevant queries or issues to the Control Room via 09-424 6999 (UMP Pekan) or 09-549 3333 (UMP Gambang Campus).
