43rd SUKUM Officially Open in Universiti Malaysia Pahang

Kuantan, 11 August – the opening ceremony of the 43rd Intervarsity Staff Sport (SUKUM) kicked off with a stunning performances. The ceremony took place at the University Sports Complex in UMP Gambang campus. 

The procession of the flags of the 21 participating contingents accompanies by a musical performance followed next. Then came the parade of the contingents, athletes and officials from the participating universities. 

Event was officiated by Deputy Secretary General (Management) of Minister of Education, Dato’ Kamel Mohamead, representing Ministry of Education. In attendace of the event were UMP Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr Daing Nasir Ibrahim and UMP Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Abd. Hamid Majid. 

The 43rd edition of the Games until 18 August brings together some 2,600 athletes from 20 universities, namely UM, UKM, USM, UTM, IIUM, UTHM and hosts UMP.

At stake is 440 medals in 17 sports, with fishing being held for the first time.

UMP’s contingent of 240 athletes are counting on the home ground advantage to better the 15th placing in UPSI last year.
