2 UMPSA students join International Summer School 2025 at Manchester Metropolitan University

MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM, 4 August 2025 – Two students from the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology (FTKEE), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), Aniq Zamzamy Sibron and from the Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology (FSTI), Fatimah Syazwina Maslan, participated in the International Summer School 2025 organised by the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), United Kingdom.

The ten-day programme, which began on 26 July 2025, gathered international students from various countries, including China, Taiwan, Portugal, Indonesia, and India.

According to Aniq Zamzamy, they took part in various academic activities, including the Light Engineering Workshop, Natural Science Workshop, chemistry experiments, mini racing car development, Sports and Exercise Science Tour, PrintCity 3D Printing Workshop, Academic English Workshop, and Computing and Maths Workshop.
“This exposure enabled them to gain practical experience, acquire new knowledge, as well as strengthen communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.

“In addition, they were given the opportunity to build international networks through social activities with the MMU Students’ Union, ice-breaking sessions, cultural quizzes, and the programme’s closing ceremony officiated by the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering MMU, Professor Mike Watkinson.

“Besides that, visits were held to several iconic locations, including Etihad Stadium, Old Trafford, Manchester Central Library, Trafford Centre, and a one-day trip to Liverpool covering art museums, science museums, the University of Liverpool, and the famous tourist spot, Albert Dock.

“Participants also had the chance to attend the international event MegaConLive at Manchester Central,” he said.

He further added that this experience broadened their perspectives on Science and Engineering in the global context, while also enhancing soft skills such as communication, leadership, teamwork, and cultural sensitivity.

Meanwhile, according to Fatimah Syazwina, the programme inspired them to continue improving themselves not only academically, but also in terms of soft skills and cultural openness, which are very important for future careers.
“We are very honoured to be able to bring UMPSA’s name onto the world stage,” she said.

Throughout their stay in Manchester, they received support from a Malaysian lecturer currently serving at MMU, Dr Eric Lao.

He not only provided academic guidance but also took the time to show the students around Manchester.

UMPSA’s successful participation in this programme not only strengthened international academic networking but was also in line with the university’s efforts to produce global graduates who are competitive, mature, and capable at the international level.
