 Academic and International Iwate University Global Fellow Award recognition for UMP

ROZAIMI ABU SAMAH, FACULTY OF CHEMICAL AND PROCESS ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY The collaboration between Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) and Iwate University (IU) Japan since 2009 via research, teaching and learning, cultural exchange and mobility programmes involving students and staff has benefited both sides.
During her service at the university, she was trusted as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Corporate Affairs and Quality) and several management positions as well as contributed to the development of research and innovation especially in the field of chemical and bioprocess engineering.
“This award should be presented at the Iwate University’s 70th Anniversary celebration in November 2019, but Professor Dato’ Dr. Mashitah was unavailable due to health problems,” he said. He added that Professor Dato’ Dr. Mashitah is the 9th of 10 recipients ever awarded by IU. Nahidul Islam, 24, from Bangladesh, when he registered along with his fellow countryman, Atik Faysal for pursuing his master’s degree in Electronics and Computer Engineering. According to Atik, who has been studying at UMP Pekan, his learning experience in UMP made it easier to help his friend upon his arrival in Kuantan. “I cannot wait to bring Md. Nahidul to places around Kuantan and dining spots that satisfy our palate. “We also have no problem getting suitable food at the cafeterias in UMP,” he said. Abdul Wahab, 27 and Arshad Ali Khan, 29 from Pakistan are also excited to embark on their PhD journey in UMP. Meanwhile, Vigneswaran Narayanamurthy, 23 from India, also shared her experience during the registration. She will study chemical engineering. UMP is no stranger to her as her husband is an alumnus of this university. They are among the 72 new students enrolled for Master and PhD studies who registered on 5 February 2020 in Astaka Hall, UMP Gambang Campus. The numbers consist of 22 PhD candidates, 23 for Master of Science (Research) and 27 for Master by coursework and mixed-mode. At the same time, a total of 8 international students registered, and it is expected to increase further.
The registration session began with an opening remark by the Dean of the Institute of Postgraduate Studies (IPS), Professor Datin Ts. Dr. Mimi Sakinah Abdul Munaim. She took the opportunity to introduce the IPS staff to facilitate the relevant issues in the future. “We hope the number of new students will increase, especially international students. More promotional activities will be held especially to the war-torn Middle Eastern countries to persuade them to pursue their studies at UMP. “To make it more interesting, UMP also provides scholarships for them. “This event also aims to introduce new students with the seniors and indirectly assist them in the process of registration,” she said. She added that IPS also offers value-added elective courses which emphasis on the competency of thesis writing and presentation. “The courses will help students in producing a quality thesis, but this personal coaching is limited to 30 students,” she said. She hopes IPS will provide the best service in terms of welfare, activities and programmes for the students to enjoy the campus life.         |
