UMP appreciates pensioners, encourages them to share expertise and skills
PEKAN, 16 December 2022 - The Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yusserrie Zainuddin encouraged UMP retirees to use all the skills, expertise and experience gained while serving the university to continue contributing to the community.
He said this advantage could be an asset for them to stay active and contribute especially to the community through the activities of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) or other platforms that are suitable to continue to serve.
“As a serving civil servant, we should come to terms with the fact that retirement is a process that needs to be passed when the time comes, regardless of the service duration,” he said at the Majlis Jasa DiKenang.
The ceremony was held at the Banquet Hall, Tun Abdul Razak Chancellery, UMP Pekan to celebrate 22 retired staff and beneficiaries from various departments and positions.
He added that out of the total, 12 UMP staff retired (mandatory), six optional, one retired due to health reasons and three died in service in 2022.
“I would like to thank all the retirees and beneficiaries and hope that the UMP Alumni Corporate Card facility provided will be of great benefit to all retirees and beneficiaries, especially health facilities,” he said.
He also shared the university’s recent success, where UMP is currently ranked 103 compared to 128 in 2021 in the UI Greenmetric World University Rankings 2022 rating.
He said the assessment made through six main criteria, namely infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, transportation and education, showed that UMP achieved an overall score of 8200 compared to 7650 in 2021 thus placing UMP in 5th place in Malaysia and first in the Malaysian Technical University Network (MTUN).
“UMP now continues to make strides by maintaining various aspects of excellence and gaining various recognitions from various parties via the efforts of all UMP staff.
“All the achievement would not have been realised without the commitment, contribution and cooperation of all UMP staff including those we celebrate today.
In the ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Ainol Hayati Ibrahim also delivered a speech representing the retirees and expressed her gratitude for all the concern of the university during her service.
Meanwhile, one of the retirees, Associate Professor Dr. Norazura Ismail, who has served for 11 years at UMP, chose to retire early to focus on caring for her parents.
She also thanked the UMP management for providing opportunities during her tenure at UMP.
