UMPSA TVET Campaign at Kuala Krau promotes inclusive education
KUALA KRAU, 11 October 2024 – The UMPSA@Kuala Krau TVET Travel Programme not only aims to highlight the benefits of TVET education but also seeks to engage the general public with the potential and opportunities offered in this field.
The one-day programme successfully conveyed an educational message through the 'Professor Turun Padang' initiative, allowing UMPSA academic experts to share their knowledge and expertise.
According to UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato' Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, this effort aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the implementation of the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Strategy, reflecting the university's commitment to inclusive education, especially for Indigenous and special education students.
"The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) has also expanded educational opportunities by creating special pathways for the B40 group, people with disabilities (OKU), Orang Asli, and athletes to continue their studies at Public Universities (UA) and Public Skills Training Institutions (ILKA) at the certificate, diploma, foundation, and bachelor's degree levels.
"In fact, this group only needs to meet the general and specific programme requirements set by their chosen university," he said.
Various activities were held throughout the TVET Adventure programme, including five simultaneous sessions at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kuala Krau: 'Introduction and Fundamentals of Drone Flight', 'Pick and Tell: Learn English Outdoors', the 'Inclusive, Mutual Motivation' programme by the UMPSA Foundation, and the 'Basic Skills in Design' module, involving 50 UMPSA staff volunteers and students.
A total of 400 students, including teachers from SMK Kuala Krau, participated in the programme.
The event also featured the signing ceremony of the Letter of Intent for Cooperation (LOI) between UMPSA and SMK Kuala Krau, officiated by UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato' Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, and the Principal of SMK Kuala Krau, Hamdan Ramli.
Also present were the Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Community Linkages), Professor Datin Ts. Dr. Mimi Sakinah Abdul Munaim; Deputy Dean (Research and Graduate Studies), Associate Professor Dr. Hafizoah Kassim; Director of the UMPSA Disability Services Unit and Chairman of PPDK DAMAi, Dr. Munira Abdul Razak; and Director of the Corporate Communication Centre, Mimi Rabita Abd. Wahit.
