Yayasan UMP receives 32,000 copies of books worth RM200,000
PEKAN, 11 March 2021 - Yayasan UMP received a donation of 32,000 copies of the Quran and Fardhu Ain (KAFA) training book worth RM200,000.00 in collaboration with SME Corporation Malaysia and Fateh Resources Holdings Sdn. Bhd. which is the sole distributor of KAFA religious books as well as the publications of Syarikat Fargoes Sdn. Bhd.
More than 4,000 preschool and primary school students around Pahang, especially in the Pekan district, will receive this benefit during the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO).
According to the Chairman of the UMP Board of Directors, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman who is also the Chairman of Yayasan UMP, this knowledge is crucial to cultivate the basics, especially for children facing new challenges in the future so that they can become future leaders.
“The university and Yayasan UMP appreciate the contribution of these books to be distributed to school students.
“We also receive many donations from outsiders, including from the Pahang Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MUIP) that always supports with aid to ease the burden of students,” he said in the UMP Cares - Choose To Share programme held at the UMP Library, Pekan.
In the event, the Managing Director of Fateh Resources Holding Sdn. Bhd., Rosli Omar presented a contribution to Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz witnessed by the Chairman of SME Corporation Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Syed Hussien Al Habshee.
Also held was the handing over of zakat assistance by the MUIP Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Ahmad Hairi Hussain who is also a Member of the Board of Trustees of Yayasan UMP amounting to RM133,810.00 for the benefit of UMP students from staff zakat contributions to be distributed to needy students and staff, especially among B40 families.
According to Tan Sri Dato Sri Dr Abdul Aziz, the cooperation with MUIP also benefited UMP students in the Mawaddah Residential College development project which is a university management initiative with MUIP to help students with financial problems and increased rental costs.
“The building erected at UMP Pekan will benefit 220 students from orphans and zakat beneficiaries (asnaf) and is expected to be fully completed in early January 2022,” he said.
Meanwhile, the UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ir. Dr. Wan Azhar Wan Yusoff said, the university ecosystem is changing not only in higher education but now more broadly, requiring every university to think about the agendas of volunteerism, funding, graduate employability and assistance for to the community.
He thanked for all the assistance received from various parties in the effort to realise the university ecosystem as the hope of the community.
UMP is also one of the public universities (UA) that will work with SME Corporation Malaysia in formulating a new entrepreneurial framework accepted in new markets.
Each year, 120,000 graduates are produced in Malaysia and as many as 30% of them are unemployed.
In carrying out its social responsibility, SME Corporation Malaysia in collaboration with the Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF) will hold discussions with five selected universities in providing training programmes to help graduates gain employment opportunities.
