“While scientific and technological skills, as focused at UMPSA, are essential for career readiness in a rapidly evolving job market, humanities education is able to foster critical thinking, creativity and ethical reasoning.

“Even climate change, public health and social justice require an interdisciplinary approach.

“Combining scientific knowledge with insights from the human aspect can lead to innovative solutions that are socially responsible and culturally sensitive.

“Interdisciplinary programmes that combine science and technology with humanities subjects, such as courses that explore the ethical implications of artificial intelligence or the impact of biotechnology on society, can bridge this field,” he said.

He said, in an effort to encourage students to engage in projects that require both scientific inquiry and humanitarian analysis, for example, projects on renewable energy can include not only technical aspects of energy production but also discussions on environmental ethics and impacts on the community.

At the ceremony, His Majesty the Pro-Chancellor completed the awarding of degrees and awards of excellence to a total of 348 recipients of doctoral (PhD) and master’s degrees as well as 64 bachelor’s degree graduands and 21 recipients of awards of excellence in Session 1.
