7 UMPSA subjects ranked globally, Engineering and Technology dominates world’s top 451–500 band

PEKAN, 30 March 2026 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) continues to strengthen its reputation on the international stage as seven specific subjects and one broad subject area have received global recognition in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, recently announced by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

As one of the leading technical universities in Malaysia, UMPSA recorded a significant achievement by being ranked in the broad area of Engineering and Technology in the 451–500 band globally.

This achievement sees UMPSA, as a leading technical university in Malaysia, listed in seven subjects at commendable positions, namely Petroleum Engineering (101–150), Engineering – Chemical (301–350), Engineering – Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing (301–350), Materials Science (301–350), Engineering – Electrical & Electronic (351–400), Chemistry (551–600), as well as Computer Science & Information Systems (751–850).

The Vice-Chancellor of UMPSA, Professor Ts. Dr. Yatimah Alias said that this achievement reflects the university’s continuous commitment to empowering academic, research, and innovation excellence at the global level.

“In addition, this proves UMPSA’s dedication to strengthening the quality of teaching, research, and intellectual contributions at the international level, in line with the university’s aspiration to remain relevant in the global academic landscape in tandem with the UMPSA30 Strategic Plan.

“UMPSA is now among the world’s top 150 for the subject of Petroleum Engineering and within the top 500 globally for the Engineering and Technology broad area, thus proving the university’s strength and expertise in its core engineering and technology disciplines.

“This achievement also demonstrates UMPSA’s growing competitiveness at the international level as a result of the university community’s integrated efforts in ensuring that the quality of teaching, research, and industry collaboration remains relevant and highly impactful.

“This success will catalyse the university’s continued efforts in expanding global collaborative networks and increasing the impact of research that benefits society and industry.

“The university offers various technical programmes based on Engineering and Technology that are capable of enriching the country’s advanced Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) ecosystem,” she said.

She further explained that, for example, the dual degree collaboration programme with Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA), Germany, which is now entering its 16th year, is seen as one of the best benchmarks for universities in Malaysia.

“To date, UMPSA remains the only public university that has implemented 12 dual degree programmes in collaboration with strategic partners, namely Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA) and Mannheim University of Applied Sciences (THM), Germany; Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) and Tianjin University, China; Kazakh National Agrarian Research University (KazNARU), Kazakhstan; Hanyang University Erica Campus, South Korea; and most recently with Hebei University (HBU), China.

“This achievement is also driven by excellence at the faculty level, including the Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering Technology (FTKKP), particularly in the subjects of Petroleum Engineering and Engineering – Chemical,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Faculty of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering Technology (FTKMA) and the Faculty of Manufacturing and Mechatronic Engineering Technology (FTKPM) contributed to the ranking for Engineering – Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing.

The Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology (FSTI) was recognised in Materials Science and Chemistry, followed by the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology (FTKEE) for Engineering – Electrical & Electronic, as well as the Faculty of Computing (FK) in Computer Science & Information Systems.

The university extends its highest appreciation and congratulations to the entire UMPSA community for its commitment and continuous efforts in ensuring that the excellence of this institution continues to be recognised globally.
