More than 1,500 attend the Launching and Handover Ceremony of the Jalur Gemilang in conjunction with the 67th National Month Celebration of 2024 at UMPSA
GAMBANG, 19 August 2024 – The Jalur Gemilang Launching and Handover Ceremony in conjunction with the 67th National Month Celebration of 2024 at Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) was celebrated with great enthusiasm today, with over 1,500 attendees.
The ceremony took place at the Sports Complex Hall, UMPSA Gambang Campus.
According to UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato' Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, the programme was held in conjunction with the Launching Ceremony of the 67th National Month and the Flying of the Jalur Gemilang, which was officially launched by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, The Right Honourable Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim, on 21 July 2024, with the theme Malaysia Madani: Jiwa Merdeka (Malaysia Madani: Independent Soul).
"The phrase 'Jiwa Merdeka' symbolizes the people's freedom from any negative elements and encourages patriotism through aspects of thought, social integration, and the economy.
"With this, a strong, harmonious, and progressive union of the people can be formed, ensuring the country's continued prosperity.
"This National Day celebration is not just about colourful parades, flag-waving, and singing patriotic songs," he said.
He further emphasized that the sacrifices of freedom fighters and the efforts to foster harmony in the country should be appreciated and respected, as they embody the values of belonging and unity among Malaysian citizens.
"I invite everyone, especially the UMPSA community, to embrace the spirit of independence wholeheartedly.
"Live, nurture, and cultivate the spirit of patriotism so that it continues to flourish within each of us," he added.
The event also featured a lecture titled “Independent Soul: National Security as the Dignity of a Free Nation” by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Dato' Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.
Professor Dato' Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin officially launched the ceremony by handing over the Jalur Gemilang to the distinguished attendees.
The spirit of patriotism and independence was further ignited as the attendees sang patriotic songs and waved the Jalur Gemilang.
The ceremony was attended by Pahang Deputy Chief of Police, DCP Dato' Noor Hisam Nordin; Deputy Director of the Pahang State Fire and Rescue Department, Assistant Fire Commissioner Md Gezani Md Ghazi; Acting Director of the Pahang State Customs Department, Md Nazri Yusuff; and Heads of Headquarters Departments from the Pahang contingent.
Also in attendance were Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs), Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student and Alumni Affairs), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed; Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Industrial and Community Network Linkages), Professor Datin Ts. Dr. Mimi Sakinah Abdul Munaim; Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Academic Development Centre), Professor Ts. Dr. Kamal Yusoh; as well as deans, department heads, and directors.
Representatives from the Malaysian Civil Defense Force (APM), Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, Royal Malaysian Customs Department, Kuantan Land and District Office, and students from Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah Islamic University (UniPSAS), Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Polytechnic (POLISAS), Malaysia Sports School Pahang, Sekolah Kebangsaan Gambang and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Mahkota were also present.
