Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs and International) UMP
PEKAN, 15 May 2023 - Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman, 46, was appointed the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs and International) of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) effective 15 May 2023.
The appointment of Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs and International) by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) for three years effective 15 May 2023 to 14 May 2026.
He arrived at 8:45 am at his office today with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd. Rusllim Mohamed, UMP Registrar, Saiful Bahri Ahmad Bakarim, Senior Manager of the Academic & International Affairs Department (JHEAA), Hazmin Aris and the management and staff at the Tun Abdul Razak Chancellery Building.
The programme was followed by a prayer recitation by the Islamic Affairs Officer, Islamic and Human Development Centre (PIMPIN), Ustaz Md. Abdu Sahak.
There was also a task handover event between Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad and Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed who had been performing the functions of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) since 1 November 2022, replacing Professor Dr. Mohd. Rosli Hainin who ended his appointment on 31 October 2022.
Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad from Parit, Perak has a Doctoral Degree (PhD) in Engineering, Massey University, New Zealand (2011), Master’s degree (2003) and Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering (2000) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Skudai, Johor.
He was previously a Professor in the Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering Technology and was a Principal Research Fellow of the Centre for Sustainability of Ecosystem & Earth Resources (Pusat Alam).
He also has experience as Senior Director of the Research Management Innovation Centre (RMIC) Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) (2019 to 2022), Dean of the Institute of Postgraduate Studies UMP (2015), Deputy Dean of the Institute of Postgraduate Studies UMP (2013 to 2015) and extensive experience in academics and research.
He was also a Visiting Professor at the Ghanami College of Technology India.
He is also a senior auditor of several accreditation bodies for academic programmes (EAC and ETAC) of the Board of Engineers Malaysia, TTAC MBOT and MQA, and has also evaluated more than 30 institutions of higher learning (IPT) during his time as an auditor.
Meanwhile, he was also involved as an External Examiner for the academic programmes of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) – Bachelor of Bioprocess Engineering and Master of Bioprocess Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) – Bachelor of Chemical Engineering Technology (Industrial Biotechnology) with Honours and Universiti Teknologi Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) – Bachelor of Chemical Engineering Technology (Biotechnology) with Honours.
He is also active in publication and research and has successfully commercialised soft gel products of stingless bee honey capsules, herbal soaps, and stingless bee honey soaps, lip balm, shampoo, toothpaste, hot balm and propolis.
Meanwhile, UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin thanked the Minister of Higher Education, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin for this appointment.
He said, hopefully UMP would continue to excel and increase its achievements towards the top technological university.
“Hopefully this appointment will enable UMP to continue to excel as a leading technological university in leading the field of engineering and technology, especially in empowering the high-level Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) agenda in the country,” he said, and at the same time appreciated the contribution by Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd. Rusllim who had been performing the functions of TNC (AA) and Professor Dr. Mohd. Rosli Hainin in academic and international development.
UMP always ensures the development of academic curricula to be more innovative, makes the industry-oriented academic infrastructure more efficient and contributes to the efforts to communitise technology in the country.
