Their sacrifices paid off, parents excited for their children’s admission at UMPSA
PAYA BESAR, 30 October 2023 - The parents could not have been prouder to see their children enrol in universities.
Tahir Untong, 57 and his wife Minah Smit, 56, came with their family from Lawas, Sarawak by plane and transited in Kuala Lumpur before boarding a bus to Kuantan to ensure that their 19-year-old daugther, Nurbatrisyia Husna Tahir, safely registered at Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA).
Nurbatrisyia will be pursuing her study in Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Technology (Petroleum) with Honours.
Her father, who is the Headmaster at Sekolah Kebangsaan Ulu Merapok, Lawas, was very excited to accompany her to Kuantan.
“I will study hard to repay them,” she said.
Meanwhile, two twins also stole the spotlight when they were present to register during the UMPSA’s new student registration day for the Bachelor’s Programmes for the 2023/2024 Academic Session.
The twins are Sarah Antasha Shahren and her sister Farah Antasha Shahren, 20 enrolled at UMPSA Gambang Campus while Noora Haidah Azmi and Noora Hanim Azmi enrolled at UMPSA Pekan.
According to Sarah Antasha from Puchong, Selangor, she was grateful when her dream with her sister came true to continue their studies at UMPSA.
“We have never been apart since we were kids, so when we are offered the same university, we are very happy.
“Both of our parents are also grateful when we are placed in the same university even though I am offered the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering programme and my younger sister the Bachelor of Occupational Safety and Health,” she said.
Meanwhile, UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin said a total of 1,807 students registered at both UMPSA campuses in Pekan and Gambang.
“New student registration is going well at both UMP Pekan and Gambang campuses with the help of officers from various departments and volunteers involving 120 Residential Student Representative (PEKA) and Student Induction Week (MINDS) facilitators.
In addition, as a convenience, UMPSA, through the Welfare Unit of the Student Affairs and Alumni Department, is always in contact with new students including managing student transportation at the airport in Kuantan, Kuantan Bus Terminal and picking them up from home for those in need.
UMPSA students will take part in the MINDS programme scheduled from 1 to 3 October 2023.
