UMP Holdings and Yayasan UMP help affected communities

KUANTAN, 19 January 2021 - Sympathise with those affected by the floods, many parties extended assistance by donating various necessities for the flood victims in Pahang. 

Recently, the UMP Prihatin Squad from Yayasan UMP and UMP Holdings presented donations to more than 300 communities affected by the flood around Sungai Lembing, Panching and Paya Besar. 

Also present were Paya Besar Member of Parliament, Yang Berhormat Mohd Shahar Abdullah who is also the Deputy Minister of Finance II, Chief Executive Officer of UMP Holdings and Groups, Ir. Dr. Syed Mohamad Hamzah Al-Junid Syed Abdul Rahman and the Head of the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, Zainuddin Mat Hussin.

According to Ir. Dr. Syed Mohamad Hamzah, this strategic collaboration is one of the social responsibilities of UMP Holdings in helping victims affected by the flood that hit most districts in Pahang. 

“Having succeeded in the TriUMPH Frontliners 1 and 2 Fund Projects with the cooperation of UMP Alumni to help the frontliner, we are now collecting donations targeted for the UMPH Flood Relief Project: Together We Care to help the flood victims,” he said during the handover of a mock cheque worth RM35,000.00 for this purpose. 

They also distributed drinking water and hand sanitisers to 2,400 people in several temporary relief centres (PPS). 

YB Mohd Shahar also thanked both parties for their contributions. 

At the same time, he reminded the volunteers to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOP) and the new normal practices because safety remains a priority. 

To date, Yayasan UMP has received over 20 tonnes of donations including children’s clothing, food, cleaning tools, blankets, pillows and sheets worth over RM100 thousand from Malaysians. 

This noble effort also facilitates the collection and distribution especially when faced with movement difficulty due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country. 

The public, industries, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and philanthropists are most welcome to contribute to the UMP Disaster Fund in terms of basic necessities, groceries, blankets and hygiene kits so that more people can benefit.
