UMPSA community holds first Friday Prayer in new mosque

PEKAN, 5 July 2024 - The community of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) performed their first Friday prayer in the newly completed and fully operational mosque at UMPSA Pekan.

The event was attended by UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs), Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman, Chief Financial Officer, Dato’ Zainuddin Othman, and Director of PIMPIN, Associate Professor Dr. Rashidi Abbas.

According to Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie, this mosque will become a focal point for the university community for spiritual enrichment and strengthening the bonds among the university members.

“I hope this mosque will be well-utilised by the entire university community, and we will also strive to further equip this new mosque with additional facilities and necessities,” he said.

The mosque, built on a 7.5-acre site at UMPSA Pekan, can accommodate up to 3,500 worshippers at one time.

Uniquely, the mosque’s roof is adorned with the ‘Bunga Pekan’ motif and incorporates technology that aligns with UMPSA’s image as a leading Engineering and Technology university in Malaysia.

The two-storey UMPSA mosque is also equipped with basic facilities such as a women’s prayer area, a mortuary management room, a circulation area, ample and comfortable parking spaces, and offices for the Islamic and Human Development Centre (PIMPIN).

He also invited the UMPSA community and the local residents to come and perform prayers as well as engage in activities that will benefit both the university and the surrounding community.

Additionally, he expressed his gratitude to all the donors and appreciation to UMPSA students and alumni who spearheaded the initiative under the Student Representative Council (MPP) through the ‘Students Build Mosque’ Project, helping the university to raise funds since the mosque’s construction began, for the infrastructure development to provide comfort to the UMPSA community and the local residents.

A total of 600 worshippers attended the Friday prayer.

The UMPSA mosque has been fully operational since 3rd July.
