UMPSA EKSA Sustainability Programme creates greener, cleaner, and more conducive work environment 

PEKAN, 19 October 2024 – In conjunction with the 19th Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Convocation Ceremony (MKK19) recently, the Conducive Public Sector Ecosystem (EKSA) Unit of the Centre for Modern Languages (CML), in collaboration with the Centre for Industry and Community Network (ICoN), organised the EKSA Sustainability Programme.

This initiative involved the planting of 19 trees on 19 October at the UMPSA Community Forest in Pekan as a symbolic gesture to celebrate MKK19.

The implementation of this programme was supported by three staff members from the Centre for Property Development and Management (PPPH), who were responsible for preparing the location and trees for the programme.

The EKSA Sustainability Programme aimed to create a greener, cleaner, and more conducive work environment.

Through the EKSA concept, a quality and safe environment becomes a priority while also focusing on environmental sustainability through green practices.

This step demonstrates UMPSA’s commitment to instilling awareness and promoting green practices among the university community.

The programme began with a symbolic officiation by the Dean of CML, Associate Professor Dr Nik Aloesnita Nik Mohd Alwi, who unveiled a cactus arrangement forming the number 19 to symbolise MKK19.

The event continued with the handing over of trees by the ICoN representative, Rozana Sahadan, followed by the presentation of decorative plants to CML by the EKSA Unit Coordinator at CML.

The office plant initiative not only added a green element but also encouraged sustainable practices at CML.

According to Dr Nik Aloesnita, every staff member must play a role in transforming the workplace into a conducive environment, especially in preserving environmental sustainability.

“This is because a good environment will create a more harmonious and balanced workplace atmosphere, contributing to better health.

“Small efforts like this are an initial step towards transforming green practices on campus,” she said.

Yusmin Jaffar, a Technical Executive from ICoN, also delivered a brief presentation on tree-planting methods.

Meanwhile, Language Teacher Shamsul Harbi shared that through this programme, he learned more about planting techniques and processes, including tree care methods.

It is hoped that this effort will benefit the university and that such initiatives will continue from time to time.
