UMPSA empowers Local Fish Ornamental
PEKAN, 20 December 2024- Centre for Modern Languages (CML), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) has successfully conducted a Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) with the Port Dickson Ornamental Fish Centre to assist with the translations of the fish descriptions.
The initiative, referred as Fishtales 2024 sought to highlight Malaysia's abundant aquatic resources while underscoring the crucial role of language in fostering cultural and scientific collaboration.
This CSR includes 15 translators and five editors who translated over 100 fish descriptions including information about fish species, food, and habitat.
These descriptions will which will be placed throughout the Fish Centre in Port Dickson which would also include CML UMPSA logo as acknowledgment as the translator.
This suggests the crucial role of CML staff in contributing their expertise as linguists to the local community.
The Head of Port Dickson Ornamental Fish Centre, Doreen Wee Siew Leen praised the detailed and high-quality translation work by CML staff members.
She even extended an invitation to the translators and editors for a visit to the fish centre as a return of favour from CML.
According to her Fishtales 2024 shows how community projects can build strong links between universities and local industries.
It also shows how language and translation can help protect and share Malaysia's special biodiversity”.
She asserts that this would be the beginning of more future collaborations between CML, UMPSA and Port Dickson Ornamental Fish Centre.
