UMPSA launches Sustainable Practice Carbon-Free Electric Vehicles
PUTRAJAYA, 23 October 2023 - In line with the National Green Agenda, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) launched the use of electric vehicles in utilising technology and innovation for the betterment of future generations.
The application of technology and the adoption of a better lifestyle can be achieved through the reduction of carbon footprint that will provide innovative solutions to the energy industry.
Through this initiative, two electric buses and two electric vans with EV charging stations were introduced at UMPSA to promote the use of low-carbon and energy-efficient smart vehicles.
Taking place today, the handover ceremony of the replica of the electric vehicle key delivered by the Director of Go Automobile Manufacturing Sdn. Bhd., Wan Ahmad Wan Omar to the UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin witnessed by the Minister of Higher Education, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin in the parking lot of the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) in conjunction with the MOHE Open Day.
Also present was the Director General of Higher Education, Professor Dr. Azlinda Azman, Deputy Secretary General (Management and Development) of MOHE, Datuk Dr. Mohd Zabri Yusoff and the Deputy Secretary General (Policy) of MOHE, Dato’ Dr. Haji Megat Sany Megat Ahmad Supian.
UMPSA implements the Sustainability Campaign to increase the awareness of its citizens to safeguard the environment in line with the university’s desire towards a Sustainable Campus.
According to the UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, UMPSA has now made encouraging progress in strengthening sustainable practices through various university programmes.
“In order to achieve the Sustainable Campus Development Goals through Key Performance Indicators 5C (2), UMPSA has succeeded in achieving the sustainable campus development progress target of 86.8% in the Third Quarter (Q3) of 2023, exceeding the target set at 78%.
“This shows UMPSA’s commitment to developing a sustainable campus,” he said.
“Therefore, the Sustainable Campus Initiative will be further enhanced with various activities such as planting trees, saving energy and resources, and reducing carbon in UMPSA.
“This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals,” he said.
In the meantime, there are eight Sustainability Initiative Campaigns implemented, namely Hydrate: Drink plain water and bring your own water bottle, Let’s takeaway: Bring your own container, Green the environment, UMP recycling day: Reducing waste, One step at a time, and Healthy lifestyle: Choose wellness every day.
Other initiatives are Organic Waste separation: Composting for a greener future, Go green: Turn your waste into a sustainable resource, and Carbon free vehicle: Go green on the road.
UMPSA is ranked 103rd best in the world in the UI-Green Metric World University Ranking 2022, based on the sustainability efforts of green campuses and environmental management.
Other sustainability ratings include the 2023 QS World University Rankings Sustainability (401-450) and the 2023 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings (301-400).
