UMPSA as Quality Verification Centre (QVC) expands offering of Stand-Alone Micro-credentials

CYBERJAYA, 30 May 2025 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) continues to expand access to higher education in the country as it is entrusted with the role of Quality Verification Centre (QVC) to conduct quality verification assessments for Stand-alone Micro-credentials (SAMC) from Certificate level (T-3) to Doctorate level (T-8), subject to stipulated conditions.

The letter of approval was presented by the Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), Dato’ Professor Dr Mohammad Shatar Sabran, to the Vice-Chancellor of UMPSA, Professor Dr Yatimah Alias, today.

Apart from UMPSA, three other educational institutions involved are Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), and MAHSA University.

According to Professor Dr Yatimah, the implementation of stand-alone MCs provides opportunities for students, industry workers, and individuals outside the formal education system to obtain recognition for their skills in a more flexible and structured manner.

“Through the QVC, we will ensure that every microcredential offered is based on the set quality standards in line with industry needs and global demands.

“UMPSA plays an active role as a QVC reference hub, particularly for the East Coast, which includes Pahang, Terengganu, and Kelantan.

“In addition, UMPSA verifies SAMC offered by higher education institutions and designated providers by aligning the quality elements of implementation and learning assessment as stipulated by the MQF,” she said.

At the same time, it facilitates the registration of verified SAMC programmes into the MQA Micro-credential Registry.

As one of the higher education institutions focused on engineering and technology, UMPSA, through QVC, is committed to expanding a flexible and continuous learning ecosystem that meets the needs of the industry and the local community.

This initiative aligns with the Lifelong Learning Agenda outlined by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and supports efforts to enhance the employability of the local workforce.
