UMPSA remains the country's number 1 best technical university
PEKAN, 10 October 2024 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) has maintained its position as the top technical university in the country, ranking first among the Malaysian Technical Universities Network (MTUN) for three consecutive years.
The announcement of the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025 on 9 October 2024 placed UMPSA in the 601-800 range globally and as the 8th best university in Malaysia overall, and the 6th best public university, following Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), and Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).
UMPSA, the 16th public university established by the Government, offers higher education programmes focused on engineering and technology and serves as the most advanced provider of high-level TVET programmes in the country.
UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Profesor Dato' Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin said that this success further strengthens UMPSA's position among world-class universities and highlights its production of impactful research and innovation at a global level.
"UMPSA's increase in teaching indicators also reflects the academic quality of this university, recognised internationally. In addition, the impact of its publications, which are frequently cited by academics, especially in the fields of science and technology," he said.
This was further proven by the recognition of 20 UMPSA researchers listed as the World's Top 2% Scientists in both the Career-Long Achievement and Single Year Achievement categories, according to the Elsevier Database by Stanford University.
This achievement is a source of pride for the entire UMPSA community, who remain committed to teaching excellence, industry collaboration, and impactful research that have contributed to the university's continued success.
He added that, in line with the university's vision of becoming a top technology university, UMPSA will continue striving to achieve excellence through academic empowerment, impactful research, and the production of exceptional graduates to contribute to the nation's development with high-quality human capital.
In the context of the UMPSA Strategic Plan 2021-2025, the university will continue implementing collaborative projects, enhancing technical capabilities, and developing products that leverage UMPSA's technical expertise in partnership with industry to strengthen these relationships.
UMPSA also places a strong focus on impactful research, artificial intelligence (AI), and cutting-edge technology, particularly in energy transition, sustainability, and digitalisation.
The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings is a global ranking system that evaluates the performance of universities worldwide, considering factors such as teaching (29.5%), research environment (29%), research quality (30%), international perspective (7.5%), and industry relationships (4%).
