Patriotic spirit and knowledge for SISPA Cadet Corps Officer to get ready
PAYA BESAR, 7 November 2021 - The patriotic spirit and provision of knowledge gave confidence to Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) cadet officer Siti Nuratiqah Syafiqah Muhamad Haslizan to continue to be ready to serve and contribute to the community and country.
She is a Bachelor of Applied Science in Industrial Chemistry with Honours student who was named the Best Cadet Officer of UMP in conjunction with the 12th Civil Defence Student Corps (SISPA Corps) National Commissioning Ceremony in 2021 recently.
Hailed from Kuantan, the second child of six siblings, started joining the uniformed body since in school by joining the Police Cadet.
Continuing this interest, she joined the SISPA Corps after continuing her diploma studies at UniKL Melaka before pursuing her studies at UMP.
She said that she learned a lot of knowledge not only in daily life but also for helping other people, especially on first-aid knowledge such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), which can save lives by helping the continuation of oxygen supply to the brain until the patient is given a more specific treatment.
Siti Nuratiqah shared her stories of rescuing her nibling who choked on a piece of food and also how she managed to help others with the knowledge gained in the course that she attended.
She said, for some people, choking is not a big issue to be paid attention to; rather, it is considered to occur due to negligence alone.
“But realise it or not, choking can actually be fatal in the blink of an eye,” she said.
“It is undeniable that my SISPA Corps colleagues and I must always be alert and responsive to disasters and emergencies, especially when faced with emergency situations including fires, accidents, or difficult moments.
Throughout her participation in the UMP SISPA Corps, she was heavily involved in activities organised by the SISPA Corps.
Among them are Post-flood in Alor Gajah, Melaka, and becoming a Committee Member of the SISPA Corps Adjutant Meeting.
Apart from that, she is the Chairperson for the Accommodation, Invitation, and Banquet Committee for the second SISPA Corps National Commissioning Ceremony in 2021.
Meanwhile, Farina Wan Adnan, who is studying for Bachelor of Chemical Engineering Technology with Honours UMP, also shared her experience of carrying out her responsibilities as the Head of Secretariat at the university level to help ensure the commissioning ceremony, which saw UMP as the host, went smoothly recently.
Farina, who has been commissioned as a Second Lieutenant for three years while pursuing her diploma at UniKL, chose to continue her involvement in SISPA Corps at UMP.
“Many opportunities and leadership experiences can be learned in shaping student personality, especially when communicating with various parties,” she said while sharing her experience in managing events at the national level.
Nevertheless, all these challenges were successfully and calmly overcome with the support of the SISPA Corps commandant, university officials, and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM).
She advised that academic achievement, trustworthiness, courage, and strength are the core identities in developing leadership ability in any field that one venture into.
For the Best Cadet Officer from Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Mohammad Firdaus Zolkefle, who pursues a Bachelor’s Degree in Arabic Studies with Honours, his participation in SISPA Corps gave him many opportunities to get involved in activities related to SISPA Corps and activities organised by the university.
Meanwhile, in terms of leadership, he was appointed as the Committee for the UniSZA SISPA Corps Association Programme with the Malaysian Langkawi Civil Defense Force in 2020.
He also holds the position of Director of the SISPA CORPS or Yang di-Pertua (YDP) of the UniSZA SISPA Corps.
A total of 19 best SISPA CORPS Cadet Officers were announced in conjunction with the 12th Civil Defence Student Corps (SISPA Corps) National Commissioning Ceremony in 2021 organised by UMP in collaboration with APM and the Holistic Student Division, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) which took place at the UMP Astaka Hall.
It involved a total of 870 SISPA Corps Cadet Officers receiving commissioning as Second Lieutenants (PA).
