UMPSA Prihatin Tour cares for students’ needs ahead of registration

KUALA LUMPUR, 18 September 2025 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) reached out to new students in need as an initiative and to facilitate their registration process on 27 September.

The visit by UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Yatimah Alias, who reached out to the family of Mohamad Afiq Mohd Azmi, inspired him to register at UMPSA next week.

Mohamad Afiq Mohd Azmi recently received an offer for the Bachelor of Technology in Oil and Gas Facilities Maintenance with Honours programme at the Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering Technology (FTKKP).

According to his mother, Maslinda Musa, 53, this graduate of Kolej Vokasional (KV) Setapak had always intended to study at UMPSA every time he passed by UMPSA Gambang Campus.

In fact, he also had the opportunity to visit the university during one of KV’s visits to UMPSA.

“It was all like a dream when I received a phone call from a staff of the Student Affairs and Alumni Department (JHEPA) who conveyed the wish to visit our home,” she said, accompanied by her husband, Mohd Azmi Ismai, 53, and their children.

Initially, she had intended to apply for a loan to support her son’s studies, but she did not expect her prayers to be answered, and the registration process to be made easier.

Afiq, the fourth of five siblings, expressed his enthusiasm and excitement to register on 27 September.

For Professor Dr. Yatimah, UMPSA is always attentive to the needs of students from registration until graduation, especially concerning their welfare throughout their studies.

“Students have the opportunity to obtain assistance channelled to eligible students, such as the B40 TVET Scholarship, Laptop Assistance, and Sulung Scholarship, zakat, as well as other aid for students in need.

“Through close collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, JHEPA, Yayasan UMPSA, faculties, and strategic collaboration partners, the UMPSA Prihatin Visit Squad has been mobilised to help facilitate financial and registration matters at UMPSA,” she said.

She also presented early cash study aid and a Yayasan UMPSA aid kit to ease the burden of the student’s family, especially at the beginning of studies when stepping into higher education.

To date, a total of 50 prospective students in need have been identified by JHEPA, followed by the Prihatin Visit Programme to identify registration needs of students, including transportation to the university.

She further added that this effort will be expanded nationwide, including in Sabah and Sarawak.

Meanwhile, Professor Dr. Yatimah also expressed sorrow and sympathy for the disaster that befell the people of Sabah.

Therefore, UMPSA also sent disaster relief aid in the form of 1,000 packs of UMPSA ready-to-eat meals through Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), specifically for flood and landslide victims, including UMPSA students and their affected families.
