Semarak Keluarga UMP cycles and cleans campus

PEKAN, 26 September 2022 – More than 200 staff from Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) participated in a 6.5 km cycling programme starting from the Multipurpose Hall, circling the campus while collecting garbage and cleaning the area around the university in the UMP 2022 Leisure Cycling Programme organised by the Registry Department in collaboration with the UMP Centre for Sports and Culture.

The flag-off ceremony was graced by the UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yusserie Zainuddin at exactly 8:30 a.m. at the Multipurpose Hall, UMP Pekan.

Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yusserie Zainuddin was also proud of the participants who showed their determination in the success of this programme.

He said such a programme is one of the programmes that support the campus sustainability agenda.

“Cycling is also a sustainable lifestyle practice that contributes to preserving the environment.

“UMP always support the SDGs, besides providing exposure on the importance of maintaining health with healthy lifestyle practices and green environment.

This programme aligned with the sharing of the Secretary General of KASA, Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Zaini Ujang in a recent Knowledge Discourse which encouraged cycling activities to reduce fuel consumption and make the environment carbon-free.

One of the participants from the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology, Wahida Hussin said the programme was her first participation after the COVID-19 pandemic.

She said the programme was beneficial to UMP staff to foster a healthy lifestyle and reduce work stress among staff.

“At the same time, the staff also have the opportunity to enjoy the nature and the interesting locations around the UMP campus,” she said.

Meanwhile, Mustafa Kamal Daud, the staff of UMP Knowledge Management and Information Technology Department, said he is passionate about cycling and making cycling his recreational activity.

“Friends with similar interests also encourage me to do this activity throughout the week.

“At the same time, this activity can strengthen the relationship with each other.

“When I saw the programme poster, I did not miss the opportunity to join with colleagues,” he said.

He added that he not only cycled around the campus, but also stopped at four locations, namely Mercu Tanda UMP, Kayak House, Rimba Lestari and Student Activity Centre for cleaning and garbage collecting.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed, Registrar of UMP, Saiful Bahari Ahmad Bakarim and Director of University Health Centre (PKU), Dr. Khairul Salleh Abdul Basit also participated in this cycling activity.

The programme was held in conjunction with the UMP National Month Celebration Closing Ceremony.
